r <br /> AT <br /> TOWN OF ASH E E <br /> LIBRARY BCOMMITTEE <br /> Minutes of the Meeting of Tuesday, May 31, 2006 <br /> committee Attendees: Also Attending; Absent: <br /> Sheldon Gilbert Helene DeFoe, Library Director Diana Lannon <br /> Ed DeFoe Nancy Soderfeld, Friends of the Library <br /> Jane Dolan Melinda Gallant, Fundralsing consultant <br /> Maureen Rounds <br /> Torte O'Neill <br /> David Burton <br /> Steven Cook <br /> Bonnie Barrett <br /> Chairman Sheldon Gilbert called the meeting to order at :''10 P1. <br /> REVIEW of MINUTES <br /> Minutes from the meeting held on Thursday,4128105 were unanimously approved by the Committee. <br /> STATUS of FOUNDATION GRANT APPLICATION—Torn O'Neill <br /> Torn O'Neill reported that preparation work on the grant applications is corning along nicely. Martha <br /> Moore plans to meet with Torn next weekend. She is expecting responses on the grant rewards in <br /> July. Torn stated that Martha advised applying for the total of$1,700,000 from the construction grants, <br /> rather than requesting something less than the full amount available. Her theory is that if you ask for <br /> the full amount, you may receive it. Martha also stated that grant foundations often follow up with <br /> additional donations at a later date, as the library program expands and requires more funding. <br /> REVIEW of GENERAL.FUNDRAISING PROGRAMA—.Melinda Gallant <br /> Melinda Gallant reported that she and Torn O'Neill are working on setting up two cocktail parties for <br /> July and August 2005. They pian to have two New Bearbury residers most the events in their homes, <br /> and will be invftlng their New seabury friends as well as individuals known in Mashpee. <br /> Melinda is working with lathy spears who is doing pro bono graphicbon work, putting materials together <br /> for distribution in the community, making people aware of the new library project and the total money <br /> needs necessary to ,Hake it a reality. Jerry Blut engarten sent two website addresses to Sheldon <br /> Gilbert, who passed the information along to Melinda. An article on one of the websites was all about <br /> the economics of the library and how much it affects the economy of the community,pity, and the whole <br /> world. Melinda has shared information about the websites with Kathy spears for incorporafion into her <br /> materials. <br /> A private shopping event at M. Braun in Il ashpe Common is being planned for September 28thfront <br /> to 8 PIM. There will be tickets sold for the event, for women only. The event is at no cast to the <br /> library: the owner of M. Braun sends out the invitations and buys the champagne.ne. Fifteen percent of <br /> all purchases,made during the event will go back to the Friends of the Library. <br /> Melinda met today with the general manager and the buyer for the Markt street Books store. They <br /> plan to do a lot of events together over the next year. The bookstore also will be an excellent resource <br /> for authors for the library. <br /> Melinda stated that she met today with a media person wh.o asked why the Friends of the Library <br /> organization does not advertise their fundraising successes in the media. Melinda stated that <br /> "success breeds success", and plans to begin providing articles and information about the Friends' <br />
