He <br /> said the proposed Hnder float will intrude to a degree of <br /> less than 10 percent of the width of the Popponesset Creek <br /> channel , <br /> He explained that the Harbormaster is the only authority <br /> responsible for public safety issues on the waterways and <br /> that they have addressed the safety issues with him, He <br /> said that the Conservation Commission would be limiting size <br /> f boats used at the dock and that applicant would be using <br /> a 17f whaler , He said they were prepared to allow the <br /> Harbormaster to post speed signs on the dock. <br /> Ellen Conan, an abutter, asked ghat setbacks are required, <br /> ro DiGregorio said the state required 25r . Mr. Makunas <br /> explained that the revised plan is now closer to the <br /> sideline. Ben Gordon, Chairman of the Waterways Commission, <br />' said the float was closer. Mr. Makunas explained that there <br /> were zoning issues on setbacks as well as Corps of Engineers <br /> setbacks , <br /> I <br /> Mr . Gordon said the Waterways Commission opposed the dark <br /> due to the narrow channel - and the fact that the entire area <br /> .s unstable, He said the width of the part of the channel <br /> which is 3 1 ' deep is much narrower. He presented boat <br /> cut outs to demonstrate possible does usage , He said <br /> children swim in the area and he thought the dock would be a <br /> Ihazard. He showed 1991 pictures of the area when the <br /> i channel had to be dredged and said the Commission also <br /> thought the Cronan dock next door should be removed . <br /> Mr, Kirrane said many of the residents in the area had <br /> obtained does permits and that he did not think the proposed <br /> dock would hinder navigation. Mr, Govoni discussed <br /> possibility of conditioning permit to a 1 ' boat . Mr. <br /> Ferragamo said he and the Harbormaster had met at the site <br /> to establish depths of water and criteria for the float. Mr . <br /> Dregoro stated that they are starting a two-year <br /> permitting process which has to go to the Corps of Engineers <br /> and Division of Waterways who would address issues of <br /> navigation, <br /> mr, Govoni moved to take the petition under advisement . Ms , <br /> Hawver seconded. All agreed. <br /> . Govoni moved to adjourn at .10 : 30 P .M. Ms . Harver <br /> seconded. All agreed. <br /> Elinor Walsh <br />
