Cape cod 'Butterfly Conservatory Julie Pourers Mashpee Commons (parking lot) Temporary Structure ._.._�,. Julie Powers appeared and said she wants to set up a butterfly habitat in a greenhouse. She shoved examples of greenhouse-tie structures on her'laptop. She provided copies of floor plan and map location in Mashpee Com mons....cop ies of these are attached to the printed set - f these minutes. 0 she would like to put it up from raid-June through end of September. 0 Torte Fudala said proposed location would be on laid-out subdivision street and you can't do it n the street. Committee suggested a location that isnot a street. Toni Fudala asked whether she looked at the area across the street from Mashpee Commons. She said she did but thea were concerns about parking, etc. Glen Harrington pointed out that Mashpee Commons has all the events on the green and vendors use that street for parking; also it is used for bathroom facility set-up. Charlie Maintanis said if on the green then handicap access requirements rust be ret. .Joel Clifford -noted proposal technically considered a structure and size requires commercial building permit application. Also-, use group has to be identified so that then Fire Department requirements can be defined—such as, for example, fire retardation: extra doors; egress; set- back; etc. Julie Powers said she is working with a consultant. Mike Sexton asked whether certain temperature has to be maintained. Julie Powers said since it is seasonal she doesn't have to run heat or air conditioning. Charlie said this is not a typical situation and he and Joel will have to research and discuss. Glen said Julie may also have to consult with the plumbing inspector if there is to be a porta- potty setup. Charlie said what if we had a storm and something happened. Julie Powers said a lot of the butterflies are tropical and they take cover in the trees. Julie Powers said the structure is covered with a metal screen so there wouldn't be a fire issue, but they would have a canopy at top and that would be a fire issue. Julie Powers said although she would have liked to open this year, she thinks it won't be a possibility for this year. She said if there is the possibility that she would -need to meet 120-mile ho r wind blow 'requirement, then she would probably go with an engineered building. } Also, Julie Powers stated she has to get permitted and inspected by USDA APHIS because-. endangered species. Conclusions Fired better location not in the street. She will explore different location with Mashpee Commons. Applicant has to determine use. she said architect will do. Charlie said while he and Joel can give an idea, a design professional would have to be involved. Ton Fudala said parking might be an issue; parking would have to be formalized. Charlie added that if you don't have handicap parking space within Zoo feet you have to provide drop- off within 100 feet. 2
