Out-of-School Suspensions - This topic was not discussed <br /> this evening. <br /> 7.7 Plato Presentation - Mr. Fluery introduced Betty Barnes <br /> from Plato, a computer-based instructional system that is <br /> able to conform to the state's curriculum frameworks in <br /> math, English, and science. It is also able to assist <br /> students in preparation for the MCAS tuts. Ms. Barnes <br /> explained this software will be installed in 26 of the high <br /> school's computers and available for use in five special <br /> classes a day. The program provides students with a <br /> series of interactive multi-media exercises designed to <br /> increase their knowledge of in the core curriculum <br /> subjects, specifically English and math. <br /> Plato's databases will be based on the state--mandated <br /> curriculum standards which are suited for MCAS <br /> preparation. The software can also be adapted to help <br /> students prepare for other standardized tests such as the <br /> SAT test. Also, the software adapts to a particular <br /> student's learning style and speed and creates a course of <br /> study that worts best for each individual student. The <br /> software is scheduled to be installed in early August and <br /> customized for Mashpee schools. <br /> One hundred and twelve (11 ) sophomores have been <br /> identified as needing assistance in the upcoming MCAS <br /> test this year. Each of these students will have an <br /> individualized educational plan developed for them in <br /> preparation for working with the Plato program. <br /> Plato will also be used as a preparation tool for all <br /> students but currently will be used for those students who <br /> are at-risk at failing the spring MCAS tests. <br /> Monthly reports will be submitted to the Committee on the <br /> progress of Plato. <br /> The "Coaches Handbook" was distributed to three <br /> members this evening and therefore did not have an <br /> opportunity to review it prior to the meeting. Questions <br /> were posed to Athletic Director Michael Horne. This <br /> document has been discussed and approved by the high <br /> school sub-committee. <br />
