MA HPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE—REGULAR MEETING—MAY 15 2001 PAGE <br /> 8.10 School Calendar — 2001-2002 School Year— Motion made by Mrs. <br /> Lynch, seconded by Mrs. Lopez, to approve the 2001-2002 school <br /> year calendar as printed. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> 8.11 Grades I and 2 Report Card Revision — Discussed earlier in the <br /> meeting. <br /> 8.12 High School Graduation Progress— High School Principal Ira Brown <br /> informed the Committee on the latest progress of the high school <br /> graduation. He also discussed the process for determining if an <br /> outdoor or an indoor graduation will be held. <br /> Mrs. Mills asked if Mr. Brown would like to repeat the Dr. Seuss <br /> books this year as last year. Mr. Brown responded he would. <br /> Motion rade by Mrs. Cook, seconded by Mr. Caswell, to include the <br /> Dr. Seuss books this year as was done last year. <br /> VOTE; Unanimous <br /> Mfrs. Lynch made a motion to approve the Willowbnd grant in the <br /> amount of $200 to supplement the construction of solar ears after <br /> school. Funds will be used to purchase motors, gears, solar panels <br /> and other parts for small solar-powered ears. Mrs. Cook seconded <br /> Mrs. Lynch's motion. <br /> VO'C'E: Unanimous <br /> Discussion followed regarding the funding of varsity ice hockey. In <br /> his recommendation, Athletic Director Michael Horne, suggested <br /> junior varsity ice hockey be elevated to varsity status beginning with <br /> the 2001-2002 season. The additional cost to go to varsity would be <br /> approximately 510,000. <br /> Motion made by Mrs. Cook, seconded by Mrs. Lynch,to approve Mr. <br /> Home's recommendation with one half of the funding coming from <br /> the revolving account while the other half from the regular budget. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> Ix. Specifically Assigned/ 9.1 School District Goal: Safety- At last month's muting, Mrs. Lynch <br /> Unfinished Business suggested taping a School Committee goal for the school year and <br /> reviewing it. The first goal was "Safety." In the packet was a write- <br /> up from the Coombs School,Quashnet School and High School. <br /> Mrs. Lynch questioned the status of canine search of book bags, <br /> purses and any bags located in the high school. when informed that <br /> only lockers and cars are being searched, it was decided that this <br /> policy will be reviewed. <br /> Mrs. Lynch questioned whether school intercoms ever all areas of <br /> the schools in case a"Code Red" is called? <br />
