 s w
MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE—SPECIAL MELTING—JUNE 27,2002 PAGE 2
At this point,Mrs.Mills brought up a few issues. They were:
I. Mrs. hills said the superintendent's posting was distributed to all employees.
2. The Science Curriculum revision will be discussed and voted upon at the July 10'h
meeting, however, due to its length,Mrs. Mills asked Committee members to stop by the
Superintendent's office to review it prior to the regular meeting.
. Mrs.. Mills discussed the relocation of future School Committee meetings. Because there
i
is no air conditioning in the Quashnet School Library, the summer meetings will be held
in the Superintendent's Office in the Quashnet School.
To alleviate late-night meetings, Mrs. leis proposed commencing the meetings at 530
p.m. and having two meetings per month to discuss certain agenda items i. .,the budget,
grants, personnel)during one meeting and the other for the remaining agenda items.
Beginning September 2002, the School Committee meetings will be held on the high
school auditorium stage.
. Regarding the issue of the pay period,Mrs. hills said it will remain the same as it is now,
however, will become a part of negotiations. Mr. Tarlov noted the Town Accountant
would need to be involved in these discussions.
Mr. Tarlow brought up two issues for the record. The first was the Quashnet School
sidewalk repair bid procedure. He said the bid opening will be held on July 1 , 2002 and
he proposed scheduling a special School Committee meeting for July 24, 2002 so the bid
could be awarded. The Committee,at this time, did not schedule a meeting.
Mr. Tarlow also addressed Mrs. Mills' above comment regarding the Superintendent's
posting. Mr. Tarlow alleged the following, "I did not receive nor have I seen to date a
copy of the posting for the position." Mrs. Bevacqua rebutted Mr. Tarlow's claim stating
that she `personally handed every member of the Superintendent's office a copy of that
memo." Mr. Tarlov said, "It did not come in my mailbox. It was not on nay sl ." H
said that as a "certified superintendent" he should have been given the posting. Once
again, Mrs. B va qua stated that she personally handed each member of the
Superintendent's office the memo and that she"disagreed"with Mr. Tarlow's claim. Mr.
Tarlow said, "I'm sorry. You're mistaken." Mr. Tarlov then proposed to the Committee
to have the posting, once again, posted on all school bulletin boards. Mrs. Mills will
contact Attorney Butler for advice.
.. Mrs. Mills addressed the "Temporary Administrative Arrangements" policy CE stating
that her recommendation would be to eliminate the "School Business Administrator"
wording as the person who would assume temporary duty in case of superintendent's
absence and revert back to previous language that stated the "most senior principal"
would be in charge. Mrs. lulls stated that the most senior principal would have a
"history with the school system" and "some business administrators do not have public
school background." This policy revision will be voted on at the July 1 'h regular School
41 Committee meeting.
