i <br /> Rr <br /> MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE REGULAR MEETING APRIL 7, 2004 PAGE <br /> 8.4 Out-of-School Suspensions—High School suspensions were as follows <br /> for the month of March — Grade 7, ; Grade 8, 7; Grade 9, 11; Grade 10, ; <br /> Grade 11, 7;and Grade 1 , 10. <br /> 8.5 School Mals Initiative,._Review — DOE — Mrs. Parolsl i gave an <br /> overview of this Department f Education School Mans Initiative SMI <br /> Review. She said the overall SMI review indicated only moderate <br /> adjustment/corrections are needed for improvement <br /> Mrs. Cook suggested that a Menu Advisory Committee meeting be established <br /> to review this report in depth. <br /> New High School Courses—Included in the packet were four new high school <br /> courses recommended by Mr. Brown. He explained that based upon the high <br /> school's Mis s ion Statement,Expectation s.for Student Learn ing,MCAS and No <br /> Child Left Behind requirements the following new courses were discussed. Mr. <br /> Brown introduced Kari LaPoint who discussed two proposed new reading <br /> courses, `Full Year Reading — Grade Seven"; and "Critical Reading and <br /> Thinking—Grade Nine."' <br /> Motion made by Mr . Lopez, seconded by Mrs. Reis,to approve the "Full Year <br /> Reading—Grade Seven"course. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> Motion made by Mrs. Lopez, seconded by Mrs. Reis, to approve the "Critical <br /> Reading and Th i nk ing—Grade Dine"course. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> Mr. Brown discussed the replacement of the Integrated Science program with <br /> "Biology I -- Two-Year Program." After discussion, a motion was made by <br /> Mrs. Lopez, seconded by Mrs. Reis, to replace the Integrated Science program <br /> with "Biology I—Two-"Year Program.' <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> Mr. Brown introduced Gary Janulewiez who explained, via a Power Point <br /> presentation,the "Technology/Engineering FullYear Course." <br /> Motion made by Mrs. Lopez, seconded by Mrs. Reis, to aprove the <br /> "Technology/Engineering Full Year Course."' <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> Mr. Brown introduced Business Teacher Carol Riley and Lou Ann St. Cyr who <br /> gave an overview of the proposed "School-to-Career Pilot Program for Juniors <br /> and Seniors." <br /> Motion made by Mrs. Lopez, seconded by Mrs. Reis, to approve the "School- <br /> to-Career Pilot Program." <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> i <br />
