4 <br /> MAS14PEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE <br /> ANNUAL"RETREAT" <br /> AUGUST 1 , 2004 <br /> Minutes <br /> Attendees: Chairman Theresa Cook, DonnaJean Lopez, Mollie Reis, and Peter Thomas. Janice Mill <br /> arrived at 9:13 a.m. Also in attendance were Superintendent 0f Schools Patricia Par sl i and Business <br /> Office Supervisor Ellen Ferguson. <br /> Mrs. Cook called the "retreat"to order at 9:05 a.m. in the Mashpee water District Conference Room. <br /> 0 FY04 Budget Closeout — Mrs. Ferguson discussed the remaining $224,000 with $190,000 of that <br /> encumbered by the town for prepaid special education tuition and $34,000 to be returned t0 the tern. <br /> • wheelchair van/Circuit B realer—Mrs. Ferguson explained the need to purchase a wheelchair van for <br /> the school system and an additional drive-. The Committee discussed this issue and voted on the <br /> following: <br /> Motion made by Mrs. Mills, seconded by Mrs. leis, to utilize $50,000 from the circuit breaker <br /> er <br /> account for a van($36,125)and driver(14,000). <br /> VOTE: Unanim us <br /> Additional Items --_Special Education Office — Mrs. .Par lsl i outlined Mrs. B audin's request for <br /> furniture replacement in the new special education office. when discussions began on the relocation <br /> f the special education office,the Committee voted the move and telephones, etc. should not exceed <br /> $4,500. Therefore,Mrs. audin's request was denied. <br /> Sean M r ne —Network Administrator discussed the status 0f the computers throughout the school <br /> system. He updated the Committee on upgrading the school-wide software K12 Planet)to interface <br /> with parents and students. After his presentation, Mrs. Cook suggested Mr. Moroney investigate the <br /> pricing through Chancery and discuss with Mr. Thomas the capabilities of the upgrade. Mr. <br /> M r n y's proposal will become part ofth budget-setting process for FY06. <br /> • Steve Babbitt — Housemaster for Grades 7 and 8 Mr. Babbitt discussed increasing concerns for the <br /> misuse ofstudents carrying backpacks. After discussion, a motion was made by Mrs. Lopez, <br /> seconded by Mr. Thomas,, to accept Mr. Babbitt's proposal for eliminating backpacks for grades <br /> and 8. <br /> i VOTE: Unanimous <br /> FY5 Budget Overview—Mrs.Ferguson discussed the FY05 to date. <br /> 2004-2005 Meeting Dates — Regular and Finance — The Committee set their 2004-2005 regular and <br /> finance meeting dates. The regular meetings will be held on the first Wednesday of each month;the <br /> finance meetings on the third Wednesday with the exceptions of September 15, 2004 will be held on <br /> September 22 in observance of Rosh Hashanah and April 2 , 2005 in lieu of April 22 which falls <br /> .during April vacation week.. All meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. and located in the Quashnet <br /> School Library. <br /> f <br />
