L <br /> k <br /> MASHPEE SCHOOL COMMITTEE—FINANCE MEETING—MAY 175 2006 PAGE <br /> i <br /> Motion made by Mr. Thomas, seconded by Mrs. Mills, to approve budget <br /> transfer$6 -0 -06 in the amount of$5,470.85 <br /> VOTE: Unanimous <br /> 3.3 Status of GrantsRevolving,Accounts and munch Program—Mr. Noche <br /> reported that the following grants are either federal or state grants and expire on <br /> ,dune 30, 2006: Indian Education, Community Partnership, Kindergarten <br /> Enhance/Full Day, and Safe Environments. Revolving accounts aro "in good <br /> shape." Food Service reflected a profit of$11,193.63 in April and a current <br /> revolving account balance of$177,023.57. <br /> 3.4 FY07 budget — Mr. Roche said Town Meeting voters approved the <br /> FY07 budget of$18,685,037 with additional Chapter 70 funds arriving. <br /> IV. Other 4.1 NE SDEC Service for FY0 —Mrs. Bradshaw discussed not joining <br /> NESDEC for the FY0 7 school year totaling$1,680.00. <br /> .2 Connect--E — Mrs. Bradshaw explained this automated, cost-effective <br /> message service that sends voice and e-mail messages to all Mashpee families. <br /> Features include student attendance, targeted messages to groups, sends time- <br /> sensitive messages from any phone, messages are delivered its household's <br /> native language, schedule messages to be sent at any time. She said cost would <br /> be $3.60 per student or approximately $7,300.00 per year. Mr. Thomas said he <br /> is very familiar with this service and thought a less expensive service could be <br /> discussed. He volunteered to be involved with other solutions during <br /> discussions. Selectman Don Myers suggested Sean Moroney contact David <br /> Ielvecchio at Town Hall to discuss. <br /> .3 1 20 — Mr. Brown explained this situation where a grandparent is <br /> requesting to enroll his grandson from Germany in Mashpee High School. <br /> However, in order for the grandson to enroll he must obtain a student visa. The <br /> United States government will only issue a student visa to ars individual who i <br /> attending a school that has been "approved" by the U. S. Citizenship and <br /> Immigration, Services. An "approved" school is one that has received <br /> permission from USCIS to enroll foreign students. Currently, Mashpee High <br /> School is not approved for this status. Application must be made for 120 status <br /> which includes a petition filing fee $230.00 and a $350.00 on-site visit. The <br /> individual who is requesting this process will be paying for the application fees. <br /> Before approving this request,the School Committee is requiring documentation <br /> that the grandfather becoming the legal guardian of his grandson while in <br /> Mashpee. Mr. Brown will contact the grandfather. <br /> Mrs. Grady welcomed newly-elected member Bill McNamara to the School <br /> Committee. <br /> Pursuant to the May ata regular meeting where Mr. Thomas expressed concerns <br /> regarding this concept, he discussed a meeting held this week with a <br /> representative from Bus Radio, representatives from Cozy Transportation, and <br /> Mr. Roche regarding the installation of radios in busses. After this meeting, Mr. <br /> Thomas said he felt comfortable with the proposal and supported it 100%. <br /> However,he asked the school attorney review the verbiage. <br />
