Cape Financial
CodJFducxion
« .aa.•.a , w DRAFT COPY
Registration: This booth checks in the students and gives them all materials for the
fair, including a spending plan and credit score. Typically placed at the entrance to
the fair, this booth can also be used for Career Counseling [best provided by a
guidance counselor] to help students change occupations if they desire or find a part
time job to supplement their income.
Career Counseling: This booth provides occupational profiles and higher education
advice relative to the students' chosen profession. It provides students with
information on interviewing tips, dress for success tips. They can also get
interviewed for a part time job. Part time jobs are periodically announced, so
students can go to the Credit Counseling booth, where they check in with the credit
counselors to be approved for a part time job. The career counselor will interview
them and determine if they are qualified. Usually only a few dozen part time jobs
are offered.
Charity/Community Service: This booth is unique at each fair, as organizers
choose a community service project for the students to participate in,while also
allowing the students to donate some of their simulation money to a charity. While
the community service is actually performed by the students, the charity component
is only part of the simulation.
Reality Check: This booth simulates unexpected events that can lead to major
financial consequences or a sudden cash windfall. The objective of this booth is to
prepare students for how to handle these situations and likely appreciate the
importance of having an emergency fund. In addition, it presents the challenge
directing a cash windfall to one's savings, investments, debt
obligations, or perhaps choosing to purchase a new luxury item. This booth also
includes a few positive outcomes like a raise at work or receiving a tax return.
Credit Counseling: The Credit Counseling booth is typically placed in the middle of
the fair with credit counselors facing all directions. Students visit this booth
throughout the fair and at the conclusion of the fair to get advice on their spending
plan and make the necessary adjustments to stay in the black. Students usually visit
this booth several times during the fair. This booth will require several volunteers
who have a solid knowledge in financial planning.
Credit For Life Development Toolkit Page 30
