ASB EE FINANCE COMMITTEE MINUTES <br /> FEBRUARY 26 , 1996 <br /> JOINT MEETING COMMENCED AT 7:OOPM <br /> Finance Committee members present: Marcia is King, Chairman; Sid <br /> Golub; Dan Goggin; Alec Watt; Mike Kuriin Tony Gallo and Juan <br /> Baciglpi. The meeting was held in the Great Room at the Town <br /> Ball. <br /> School Committee members present: Kathy Lynch; Steve Maxton and <br /> Terry Cook. Dr, Lincoln Deoura, Superintendent, was also present <br /> 1 <br /> at the meeting for discussion. <br /> Please note for the record that the taping of this meet g' is for <br /> the transcription of the ILn to only. once the Minutes are <br /> ppro� ed, the- tapes wi l 1 be. reused. <br /> Draft <br /> The two groups discussed the PY57 Sumta ry Budget Draft V. Dr, <br /> Deoura also provided a comparison of the FY96 Budget to the x' 97 <br /> Budget, Daft Dr. Deoura stated that the current bottom line <br /> figure is $8,543 ,,7,26 down from $8 ,9 -million. The School Committee <br /> had stet most recently with the School. Councils, Therewere many <br /> school council members in attendance, as well as, teachers; patents <br /> and concerned citizens. The actual increase in the budget i <br /> $1,325' ,751, The comparison sheet shows such iters as an increase <br /> in grades preschool through sixth by 29 students. According to Dr. <br /> DeMoura, there is an additional 39 pupils in grades seven and eight <br /> alone. Dr. DeMoura explained that the School Committee has cut the i <br /> budget everywhere that makes sense-. Mr, Golub asked -the total <br /> enrollment o seventh, eighth and. ninth graders.. Dr, Del oura, <br /> answered approximately 404 students. Mr, Watt asked how the <br /> Superintendent came up with the figure of $510,000 for the ninth <br /> grade Dr-. DeMoura responded that 13 children approximately wiell <br /> go to Cape Cod Tech, 100 will stay in Mashp a and that number is <br /> multiplied by $5,1.00. That is the calculation for per pupil <br /> expenditures. Mr.. Goggin stated that he would like to know exactly <br /> what the high school is going to cost to open. <br /> Dr, Deoura mentioned that they had reduced expenditures such as <br /> grounds maintenance and cleaning serVices -at the high school . The <br /> school has chosen to privatize these. services. Dr. Deoura <br /> mentioned that he did meed to recheck the cost for cleaning <br /> services. <br /> MS. King asked if the School Committee intended to submit $8,5 <br /> million as their budg t recommendation? Dr, Del oura. answered that <br /> this is where they are at currently, but that this figure has not <br /> been voted on. Mr. Golub asked if the School Committee was <br /> prepared to p esent a budget to the Town, if they were not given <br /> what was asked for in their budget request. Kathy Lynch explained <br />
