ASB EE FINANCE COMMITTEE MINUTES FEBRUARY 26 , 1996 JOINT MEETING COMMENCED AT 7:OOPM Finance Committee members present: Marcia is King, Chairman; Sid Golub; Dan Goggin; Alec Watt; Mike Kuriin Tony Gallo and Juan Baciglpi. The meeting was held in the Great Room at the Town Ball. School Committee members present: Kathy Lynch; Steve Maxton and Terry Cook. Dr, Lincoln Deoura, Superintendent, was also present 1 at the meeting for discussion. Draft The two groups discussed the PY57 Sumta ry Budget Draft V. Dr, Deoura also provided a comparison of the FY96 Budget to the x' 97 Budget, Daft Dr. Deoura stated that the current bottom line figure is $8,543 ,,7,26 down from $8 ,9 -million. The School Committee had stet most recently with the School. Councils, Therewere many school council members in attendance, as well as, teachers; patents and concerned citizens. The actual increase in the budget i $1,325' ,751, The comparison sheet shows such iters as an increase in grades preschool through sixth by 29 students. According to Dr. DeMoura, there is an additional 39 pupils in grades seven and eight alone. Dr. DeMoura explained that the School Committee has cut the i budget everywhere that makes sense-. Mr, Golub asked -the total enrollment o seventh, eighth and. ninth graders.. Dr, Del oura, answered approximately 404 students. Mr, Watt asked how the Superintendent came up with the figure of $510,000 for the ninth grade Dr-. DeMoura responded that 13 children approximately wiell go to Cape Cod Tech, 100 will stay in Mashp a and that number is multiplied by $5,1.00. That is the calculation for per pupil expenditures. Mr.. Goggin stated that he would like to know exactly what the high school is going to cost to open. Dr, Deoura mentioned that they had reduced expenditures such as grounds maintenance and cleaning serVices -at the high school . The school has chosen to privatize these. services. Dr. Deoura mentioned that he did meed to recheck the cost for cleaning services. MS. King asked if the School Committee intended to submit $8,5 million as their budg t recommendation? Dr, Del oura. answered that this is where they are at currently, but that this figure has not been voted on. Mr. Golub asked if the School Committee was prepared to p esent a budget to the Town, if they were not given what was asked for in their budget request. Kathy Lynch explained
