Page 2 <br /> inequities in funding education. <br /> Hoard of Health <br /> Elias. McQuaid, Health Agent; Bob Graham, Orin Evans and Steve Ball <br /> were at the meeting on behalf of the Board of Health. There. were <br /> also many residents from the affected areas present. Mr. McQuaid <br /> explained that the Board of Health, as wll as the Board of. <br /> elect en, voted to. come before the Finance Committee to request <br /> monies for this potential emergency regarding groundwater <br /> contamination. The money, if transferred, would. purchase bottled <br /> wat , as well as ftiltration units . Mr. McQuaid stated that the. <br /> filtration units would only- be in place for- six months . Mr. Golub <br /> asked out of the 40 homes, are certain hones more of an emergency <br /> than others? Mr. McQuaid answered that the Health Department is <br /> responding to the whole neighborhood, Mr. McQuaid also mentioned <br /> that it was the recommendation of the Department of Public Health <br /> to push for filtration units in all of the homes .. Mr, Goggin asked <br /> when Town water would become available and what is that based on . <br /> Mr. McQuaid answered that Town water, according to. the Water <br /> District, would become available within eight to ten weeks . Mr. <br /> McQuaid is estimating somewhere around three months, or twelve <br /> weeks . <br /> Mr. Golub. asked how long it would take to, install these filtration <br /> units, if approved? Mr. McQuaid answered that it would take <br /> approximately two weeps to install all of the. filters . They would <br /> not be available for another week though. M '. Kumin asked why one <br /> hid was double the cost of the other corpay Mr. McQuaid' s answer <br /> was, that according. to Premier, they have better- filtration units. <br /> Mr. Golub asked about a third hid? Mr. McQuaid answered that he <br /> had a third bid on the bottled water, but it was significantly <br /> higher. He has not yet received a third bid on the f 1trati n <br /> units. Mr. McQuaid did mention that the Finance committee could <br /> vote to approve this transfer and he would then submit the third <br /> bid� if it came in lower* Mr. Bacigalupi agreed that this chid not <br /> have to hold up the procs" . i <br /> Mr. Golub stated that Augat had installed two systems) They have <br /> installed two ,systems to homes that have tested positive, but they <br /> have yet to admit or deny responsibility, stated Mr. McQuaid. Mr.. <br /> Golub asked if Augat is willing to continue to particip to in these <br /> costs? Mr. McQuaid answered that they Will continue to monitor <br /> wells that they have input filtration into. Mr.. Golub asked f'or a <br /> brief' history of how the Town finds itself in this- situation today? <br /> Mr, McQuaid explained that the Health Department first got involved <br /> in 1.991 when the Augat septic systems failed. The soil around that <br /> area were contaminated. There appears to be a correlation between <br /> Augat and the health problems . <br /> Mr. Goggin asked what the Board of Health is. asking, for tonight <br /> Mr. McQuaid responded that the Board of health is asking for <br />
