y <br /> Mashpee Finance Conunittee <br /> Minutes <br /> Tuesday,March 10, 1998 <br /> Present: Alec Watt, Chairman <br /> Jing Cleary,Tony Gallo, Sidney Golub,Nancy Goulart,Mike Kum in <br /> Absent: flan Goggin <br /> Also Anne Shaw,Treasurer <br /> Present: Wayne i uchermin, Coordinator,Economic Development <br /> Bob Sherman, Conservation Agent <br /> Meeting Called to Oder by Chairman watt at 6:48 p.m. at the Mashpee Town Hall,Meeting <br /> Room#1,on Tuesday,March 10, 1998. <br /> TREASURER/TAX COLLECTOR BUDGET REVIEW. <br /> Anne Shaw,Trcasurer/Tax Collector,reviewed their budget request for FY99. <br /> Chairman Watt stated that the Finance Committee had a question on the funding for the part- <br /> time clerk;'in the Treasurer/Ta Collector's budget request. <br /> IVIS. Shaw st ted't at this part-time clerk would be on the't'reasurer's side. The clerk would <br /> be to help her assistant with the payroll. Nis. Shaw noted that the work with payroll has <br /> tripled with the increase of school and town employees. She noted that in addition to doing <br /> the payroll,they must monitor benefits,keep up with the laws because they are always <br /> changing,and code the data in. She added that all the specific information on each employee <br /> has to be put into each individual file. There are also many reports that must be done by <br /> Payroll. She stated that presently there is only one person working on payroll,while here are <br /> over 500 employees and there will probably be over 600 employees next year. She noted that <br /> the School Department has about 250 employees. <br /> Upon qucstioning by the Finance Connnittee regarding the use of a floating clerk which is <br /> what the Executive Secretary is recommending,Ms. Shaw stated that the position in Payroll <br /> is highly specialized and a floating clerk would not workâshe stated that you need someone <br /> who is trained on the job. <br /> Mr. I umin questioned how often employees are paid. Ms. Shaw stated that the Town <br /> employees are paid weekly and the School employees are paid every other week. She stated <br /> that she would like everyone to be paid every other week. <br /> Ms. Shaw noted that Payroll is with ADP and their program.on their system will be going <br /> frorn a DOS version to a windows version of the pro raa . <br /> Mr. Golub questioned Nis. Shaw if she knew what other towns on the Cape or statewide that <br /> are the size of Mashpee had allocated for resources for the kind of tasks done in the Payroll's <br /> office. Mr. Golub stated that it would be helpful if they could find out that information. <br />
