5
Board of Selectmen
Minutes
April 9, 2018
APPOINTMENTS & HEARINGS
Discussion and Approval of FY 2019 Transfer Station Sticker Fees:
The Board of Selectmen conducted their annual review of the Transfer Station Sticker Fees for FYI
which are scheduled to be made available for purchase on June 1, 2018. Users generally fund 85% of
the cost of operation. In FY 18, the Board of Selectmen imposed a new fee for the Recycling Only
sticker; $25, and increased the 1St Household sticker fees to $140, 2"a Household sticker fees to $20 and
Single Trip passes to $15.
Five scenarios relative to the proposed FYI Transfer Station Permit Fees were presented to the Board
for comparison purposes. Over the years, the Board has considered the option to increase the sticker
fees to self-sustain the operation of the Transfer Station by 100°/x.
Currently, the Town Manager's FYI budget recommendation projects a 15%tax subsidy for the
operation which is a slightly higher estimate based on last year's direction. As the matter was debated,
the Board took the following action;
Motion made by Selectman Cotton to support Option 42; $150 for the 15t Household Permit, $35 for the
Recycling Permit, $20 for the 2"d Permit and $15 for a Single Trip. The tax subsidy is 8%.
Motion seconded by Selectman Gottlieb.
VOTE: 2-3. Motion does not carry.
Roll Call Vote:
Selectman O'Bara, no Selectman Cotton, yes Selectman Sherman, no
Selectman Cahalane, no Selectman Gottlieb, yes Opposed, (3)
Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to maintain status quo; $140 for the 1St Household Permit,
$25 for the Recycling Permit, $20 for the 2 d Permit and $15 for a Single Trip.
