6 <br /> Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> January 8, 2018 <br /> Discussion and roval of the Historical Commission SHRAB Grant Alication: American <br /> Revolutionary Veterans Memorial; HistoricalCommission: <br /> Mashpee Historical Commission member Richard I eSorgher was in attendance with Historic District <br /> Commission member Earl Mills to review the American Revolutionary onary Warr Memorial project with <br /> members of the Board of Selectmen. <br /> In ars attempt to be financially prudent, the Historical ommissionlHistoric District Commission are <br /> seeping approval of grant funding through the State Historical Records Advisory Board (SHAG). <br /> The Board of Selectmen was requested to support the grant application seeking $15,000. The grant <br /> deadline is January 15, 2018, and matching funds are required for eligibility. <br /> Mr. De orgher informed the Board that the Community Preservation Committee (CPQ voted to <br /> support this project and provide matching funds in the amount of $15,000. The CPC also voted to <br /> fund $17,500 for landscape architectural services to further enhance the Community Park/Veterans <br /> Garden/Community Garden as a site to memorialize all American Wars and to acknowledge the rich <br /> history of the Town of Mashpee. <br /> The HistoricalCommission/Historic District Commission is attempting to honor the veterans of <br /> Mashpee who have served in the American Wars to ensure their service is not forgotten. In discussing <br /> their vision for the complete memorial project Mr. Ike orgher noted the Community Preservation <br /> Committee recommended that a.master plan be developed with guidance from the Board of Selectmen <br /> and other related boards and committees including the Veterans of Foreign Wars. It was noted the <br /> Community Park Committee is scheduled to meet with the HistoricalCommission/Historic. District <br /> Committee on February 17, 2017 to review this proposal. <br /> The project should become a great source of pride for the Mashpee community. Mr. Ike orgher noted <br /> the wooded area and adjacent Community Garden (garden plots to be retained) is considered in the <br /> expansion proposal for monuments and cultural and community events. In. addition to honoring our <br /> veterans,the project would bring forth the Wampa.noag history and culture. <br /> In an effort to conserve funds, the existing monument located in the Veterans Garden is proposed to be <br /> engraved on the back with the list of Mashpee descendants who fought in the America Revolutionary <br /> f. <br /> Vicar. In response to this proposal, the Board of Selectmen recommended that a. master plan be <br /> developed before this consideration moves forward. <br /> Lotion made by Selectman Gottlieb to authorize the submission of the grant application for the <br /> Mashpee American Revolutionary War Memorial to SHRAB, and authorize the Town Manager <br /> to prepare a letter of support for this project. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Sherman. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. -o. <br /> Roll Call Vote. <br /> Selectman O'Hara,yes Selectman Cotton,yes Selectman Sherman,yes <br /> Selectman Cahalane,yes Selectman Gottlieb,yes opposed, none <br />
