Board of Selectmen <br /> Minutes <br /> March 1 201 8 <br /> Discussion of Loss of County Owned Housingfor Americo s: <br /> In concern to the loss of County owned housing for the invaluable services provided by the <br /> Ameri or s volunteers the Board of Selectmen a reed to convey their support for adequate housing <br /> on the Upper Cape. Fortunately, it was recently announced there have been a number of offers for <br /> service housing which may resolve the housing issue. <br /> However it was made known the Amur) ores service budget has decreased the number of participants <br /> from 34 to 26 individuals. This represents a cost reduction of approximately $60,000 from the <br /> Ameri orps budget. The Board agreed to convey support of this program to the Barnstable County <br /> Commissioners and request the AmeriCorps Program to be funded at the same level of prior service. <br /> It was noted the Assembly g of Delegates voiced unanimous support to fund this program in lull, and the <br /> Selectmen's position would be conveyed to the delegates as well. <br /> For the past 10+years the Ameri of ps volunteer organization has provided outstanding service to the <br /> Town of Mashpee. Several projects of note include the improvement of conservation lands with <br /> p <br /> rod ects such as the Land- teward Program,the installation of fencing for the community gardens and <br /> at the beaches, related to trail maintenance, restoring grassland <br /> creating pollinator gardens, or <br /> habitat and the clearin he 'in runs. The Ameri ores has also provided significant assistance in <br /> g g <br /> aquaculture including shellfish propagation. <br /> Motion made by Selectman Cahalane to send communication to the Barnstable County <br /> Commissioners in support of the nerd orps program requesting consistent fundiniz for this <br /> much needed program. <br /> Motion seconded by Selectman Cotton. <br /> VOTE: Unanimous. 5-0. <br /> Roll Call Vote: <br /> Selectman O'Hara,yes Selectman Cotton,des Selectman Sherman,yes <br /> Selectman Cahalane,yes Selectman Gottlieb,yes opposed, crone <br /> Discussion and Approval of following ecial Event Applicafions4,, Recreation Department. <br /> Mary K4 Bradbury, Director of the Recreation Department was in attendance to request the Board <br /> approve (3) Special Events Applications. The applications were disseminated to the applicable Town <br /> Departments with stipulations attached.
