Update: Mashpee Herring Run Maintenance Activities <br /> Besse Bog culvert Maintenance <br /> The Agent showed some slides of the area associated with Mill bond /Mashpee Herring Faun. <br /> DPW repaired the area and created a retaining gall and below that is-the fish ladder. The <br /> Commissioners approved this on an administrative order. He said it is now contained and it is not <br /> a permanent solution. There is a longer-terra solution that DPW is working on for stormwater <br /> management ent in this area. He noted across the street is Mill Mond. This has become heavily <br /> channeled. He said he went down with DPW and are looking at putting in a series of 3 to 4 <br /> waterbars and backfilling with filter fabric and top dressed with filter stone. This would be another <br /> temporary measure. <br /> The Agent noted the Besse Bog Culvert. He said there is an outlet to the bog that goes through a <br /> small culvert under Fite 130 to the other side that goes into I oisey Hole conservation area that <br /> eventually leads to a series of fresh water wetlands. This was part of the Quaker Run Fiver which <br /> is now broken in a series of abandoned cranberry bogs. DPW is going into this area to clean up <br /> the culvert because there is no flow going into the culvert which will restore flow down to the ditch. <br /> The clearing of the culvert will help to reestablish a hydrologic connection to wetlands south of . <br /> Besse Bog, This will happen next week.
