Update: Mashpee Herring Run Maintenance Activities
Besse Bog culvert Maintenance
The Agent showed some slides of the area associated with Mill bond /Mashpee Herring Faun.
DPW repaired the area and created a retaining gall and below that is-the fish ladder. The
Commissioners approved this on an administrative order. He said it is now contained and it is not
a permanent solution. There is a longer-terra solution that DPW is working on for stormwater
management ent in this area. He noted across the street is Mill Mond. This has become heavily
channeled. He said he went down with DPW and are looking at putting in a series of 3 to 4
waterbars and backfilling with filter fabric and top dressed with filter stone. This would be another
temporary measure.
The Agent noted the Besse Bog Culvert. He said there is an outlet to the bog that goes through a
small culvert under Fite 130 to the other side that goes into I oisey Hole conservation area that
eventually leads to a series of fresh water wetlands. This was part of the Quaker Run Fiver which
is now broken in a series of abandoned cranberry bogs. DPW is going into this area to clean up
the culvert because there is no flow going into the culvert which will restore flow down to the ditch.
The clearing of the culvert will help to reestablish a hydrologic connection to wetlands south of .
Besse Bog, This will happen next week. We will be keeping an eye on it to make sure no adverse
impact happens to the wetlands in this area.
Motion: Mr, sweet moved to adjourn, seconded by Mr..Shaw. vote -0 Meeting Adjourned
7:26 p. .
Respectfully submitted,
Judy Dai neault, Recording secretary
f
f
