Cook stated that you cannot charge pule for an academic program <br /> during the school day. Ms.Lynch commented that they get additional money from the state <br /> because they are full-day—they don't get half of the funding—they get the funding for fuU- <br /> day. <br /> Ms. Cook and Ms.Lynch Further commented that having D-day ld adergarten saves money <br /> in the long run because they are identified earlier with problems beause you are seeing these <br /> children For a whole day rather than a half-day. IIs.Cook stated that a lot of parents had <br /> refused to hold them children back before the full-day kdndergarte ; now,they get the parents <br /> to hold the children bad. She conunented that educationally,the children are better off. <br /> Ms. Cook noted that the IOWA tests came out and none of they regular "'grade students <br /> came m at the bottorn score. She stated that this is for a number of reasons—the M-clay <br /> indergarten is one of the reasons. Also,she stated that they have brought a phonics program <br /> in. Also,the remedial reading program and Title 1. They changed Tie 1 backs to pulling the <br /> children out that need the help and give theme,special help. <br /> Ivy.Arden questioned the anmount of$425,000 for fiscal year 2000 fbr step increases luted on <br /> the sheet they handed out. He stated that,according to his calulaOons,the step increment <br /> costs about$200,000. Mr. Arden was informed that the$4231,000 includes not only the <br /> teachers—it includes ah of Unit ,Unit B,,Unit C—it is all the negotiated increases. <br /> IVIS.Lynch and Ms. Cook stated that they are looldng for$500,000 of the additional money <br /> that might be coning to the town. <br /> Ilr. Golub questioned ghat is going to happen next year. He asked if they are hoofing at <br /> anything in the long range, Ms.Lynch and Ills. Cook stated that they are looking at long <br /> range. <br /> Is.Lynch commented that they are still in a growing school system—it is a mid now <br /> that is slowly getting fatter at the tap. She added that there are still going tomi creases and <br /> she hopes that they are not going to be double-W91t increases. <br /> Where was discussion on the size of the classes and the growth and whether there will be a <br /> need for another elementary school. <br /> IVIS. Cook commented on the fact that that there was no representation From-the school at the <br /> ClP meetings. Il r. Golub noted that %of the CIP budget was recurring items— <br /> support. <br />
