1 lashpee Finance Committee
Minutes
Tuesday,August 10, 1999
Present: Chairwoman Nancy Goulart
Dean Arden,Jeff Arnold,James Morgan
Absent: Steve Cashman, Sidney Golub
Also Greg Taylor,Director of Public'works
Present: Chuck Sheehan
Meeting Called to Order by Chairwoman Gouklart at 6:35 p.m.at the Mashpee Town lull,
Meeting Room 1,on Tuesday,August 10, 1999.
GREG TAYLOR, PUBLIC WORKS
Generator for Public works BuildiM. `
11th. Greg Taylor,Director of Mashpee Public works, stated that he was present to get an
opinion from the Finance Committee.
Mr. Taylor stated that the Department of Public works has a very operable building which
was built about 12}rears ago and is all paid for. when they originally did the building, they
slid not include an emergency generator. A couple of years later,an emergency generator was
purchased. Mr. Taylor stated that what was purchased,in order to save money, was
retrofitted 1 's generator which only powers some of the lights in the building and not the
entire building.
Mr.'Taylor noted that about 3 weeks ago, during the severe thunderstorm, they lost power at
9:00 a.m.and they did not get power restored until 24 hours later. He pointed out that the
generator doesn't light the garage;it doesn't even light the bathrooms.
Mr. Taylor noted that they are usually working whenever there is an emergency, whether it is
hurricane,a snowstorm, whatever. when they are working, they need the garage functional
for the repairs and other things Haat happen.
He stated that they meed funds to purchase a new generator that would take care of the entire.
building. Mr.Taylor commented that an option is that he would entertain a request to put
full-fledged generator in the building and treat this purchase as an emergency. He noted that
if it is not treated as an emergency, the other avenue he has is to put it in as a capital request.
Mr. Taylor commented that the estimate he has received on a new generator is$25,000 plus
the cost of the retrofitting. This generator would power the whole building. 'He stated that
the estimate that he has received in the mn unt of$25,000 is from South Shore Generator
Service.
Mr. Taylor said that he wanted to see if the Finance Committee would entertain this option;
and,if so,he would put in a formal request.
