He stated that he
would like to discuss the economics of the truck, in general. He noted that the truck is a 1994
GMC Sonoma, small truck, standard shim,long-bed work truck with two-wheel drive. He
added that they purchased the truck in 1994 for$8,100 by trading in their previous older
truck, which they got$ . for. The list price for the truck was$10,500. r.York added
that the truck has been very economical since 1994—they haven"t had to put money into it.
Since last year, however, they have had to start putting money into the truer. He stated that
last year,he had to taut brakes on the truck and some other repairs for about$750. Nov it
needs a complete exhaust system replacement, which would cost another$750.
Mr. York said that the D.P.W.mechanic suggested they trade the truck 1n. He noted that the
trade-in value from the Kelly Blue Book on the Internet is about$3,000. Mr.York stated that
he has kept the truck maintained and it is in very good shape. He noted that if they decide to
trade the truck in,thea they would not want to replace the exhaust system on it.
Mrs. Goulart questioned what it would cost for a new truck.
Mr.York stated that the present truck is two-wheel drive with standard transmission. He
noted that the Shellfish Department is a gear-round department;and, therefore,it would be
better and safer to have a four-wheel drive truck in the winter. Mr. York noted that an
automatic transmission would be an advantage,as well. 1=Ie stated that he received prices
from the dealer and on the Internet for an automatic,,four-wheel drive Sonoma. He said that
for the basic-type work truck with a towing pakage for the boats, the list price is around
$18,000. If you take the$3,000 trade-in,you are talking about$15,000. Mr.York added that
there is about 45,000 miles on the truer right now.
Mr. Arnold questioned Mr;York if he looked into municipalities purchasing their vehicles at
Plymouth County—through the State Bid List. Mr. York stated that when they bought their
present truck, the State Bid List did not have shall basic trucks on the list. lir. Arnold stated
