Bob Sanborn discussed rationale for budget increase, and assessment, and
presented a handout which answered questions regarding enrollment trends, state revenue
cutbacks, and a shift in state required contributions.
The starting point for the assessment is the required, mini mum, contribution. Mr. Sanborn
was not certain of the cost of assessment if there were no Mashpee students in attendance at
Cape Cod Tech. (enrollment of Mashpee students in Cape Cod Tech has increased). Property
and income levels also affect ct assessment. State revenue cuts at the School, as well as on the
transportation side, are anticipated, and he is not comfortable stating that they are going to be
"level funded". School has control over the budget, but not over assessment. Cape Cod Tech
has met with other Towns regarding assessments. lir. Sanborn wants equitable education for
both Mashpee and Cape Cod Tech students, and is diligently working on reducing spending.
Mr. Sanborn requested that it be known for the record that Cape Cod Tech is not governed by
preposition 2 1/2,ho ever,their budget(with the 2.9% mncrease) includes health insurance,
maintenance, custodial expenses, retiree benefits, and Barnstable County assessment. A
health insurance cut has been made.
3/13/2009 l
