Fire Station Building Committee <br /> Minutes 2 <br /> December 2 1 1998 <br /> ARCEMCUMAL,� <br /> ChadraT (continued) <br /> Mr. Nafie presented a preliminary design option for the Mashpee <br /> `ire &Rescue station expansion project and discussed several code <br /> violations and design flaws that were detected in the present facility. <br /> Design option "A" as initially envisioned reflected an additional apparatus <br /> bay; 4500 sq. t. for an estimated cost of$75/sq. ft. The reconfiguration <br /> of the support area, fire personnel, office, and community area considered <br /> an area of 9000 sq. ft. which was estimated to cost $115/sq. t. Mr. Nafie <br /> indicated that there are sufficient funds in the present budget to complete <br /> the renovation addition project. The surra of$100,000 was estimated to repair <br /> the existing apparatus bays. A 10% contingency fee was also incorporated <br /> into the $2 million dollar budget. <br /> Mr. Nafie stated that he would assume responsibilities as principal architect <br /> in charge. V. J. Kumar would assist with project design. The cost estimating <br /> nn of Federman Design and Construction Consultants would be retained for <br /> the intended project scope. <br /> UNA will offer expertise to obtain Town Meeting approval in May. Several <br /> potential construction scenario's include phasing, the use of mobile units, and <br /> the temporary relocation ofemployee's during the renovation process. <br /> In closing,Mr. Nafie indicated that he is sensitive to design issues and would <br /> create a building the entire community would be notably proud o <br /> Wallam]ElQvcL i frac <br /> Leonard Bertaus, principal of Wallace, Floyd,Associates, Inc. of Boston <br /> was unable to be present for the architectural interview. .carnes May, project <br /> manager and architect was present on his behalf. Andre Martecchini of <br /> Ammann& Whitney, Civil and Structural Engineering and Robin Greenleaf <br /> f Architectural engineers, Inc.,Engineering and Fire Protection were also in <br /> attendance. <br />
