3
Fire Station Building Committee
minutes
August 1 , 1999
REPORT OF THE ARCHITECT:
It was noted that a second transfer switch could be added for a larger
generator unit at a future date. The use of the air conditioner was
considered. Minimum equipment needs include;
lights and doors—apparatus bays
compressor, boiler
heating system, air handler
adequate lighting in crew quarters and public spaces
watch room, communications
computers
The deletion of the security system was also recommended to be
elinnated from the design to reduce budgetary constraints.
Mr. Beaux indicated that the design cost estimate is projected
approximately 2-5 lower than anticipated. In addition to the above
recommended reductions,an additional $2001,000 should be removed from
the estimate to remain within the intended budget appropriation.
A further design reduction scenario includes the elimination of the storage
room, and reducing the dimension of the second floor.
The Committee agreed to form a subcommittee to address priorities and
needs of the Fire Department. Chief Baker,Joseph Peltier and George
Weznlak met on this date with the Architects to review possible
construction reduction scenarios. The Deputy Fire Chief was also in
attendance. The Committee agreed to report to the full Committee at the
next scheduled meeting.
The matter of contingencies was discussed. The Architect was directed to
further clarify this issue. It was noted that design contingency @ %
reflected on page 1/1 is the premium for umion labor in construction. The
actual design contingency is not included in the budget at this time. The
construction contingency @ %allows for change orders within the union
budget.
