1 <br /> Fire Station Building Committee <br /> Minutes <br /> August 14, 200 <br /> Present: Joyce Mason, George tae nia , Charles Stone, Sheldon Hamblin <br /> Absent: George Baler,Dr. Elizabeth. etti, Peter Thomas <br /> Guests: Wallace Floyd Design Croup---Len Bertau <br /> Clerk of the Works—Russell Wheeler <br /> Meeting Called to Order by Chairman Mason at 9:05 a.m. <br /> Mashpee Fire &Fescue Station. <br /> REPORT OF T1AE ARCFHT CT: <br /> .len Bertau , Principal Architect was present to discuss the status ofthe <br /> renovation project with members of the Fire Station Building Committee. <br /> In particular, the structural engineering portion of the proj*ect proponent <br /> was reviewed. <br /> It was noted that the structural engineers, Ammann & Whitney under <br /> designed the roof framing over the apparatus bay and crew quarters. At <br /> present, it does not structurally meet code requirements. Under the <br /> direction of the Building Committee and Project Architect, an UP for two <br /> alternatives necessitated by the design flaw for pre-fabricated trusses and <br /> conventional framing was re-designed by the structural engineer. <br /> To date, a detailed cost quotation from the general contractor has not been <br /> secured. The change order to encom ass the reconfigured roof frame <br /> design is estimated to cost in the range of$10,000 to $20,000. It was <br /> noted that the initial design detailed conventional framing with attic space. <br /> Mr. .Ber aux indicated that the Town is responsible for the base cost of the <br /> roof Additional material for the change order is the responsibility of the <br /> architectural designer. The Committee agreed to consult Town Counsel <br /> with respect to this regard. <br /> Presently,Nir. Bertaux indicated that his firm is reviewing coordinating <br /> items related to the structural and architectural components of the intended <br /> scope. Professionally,the structural engineer has reviewed the major <br /> components in significant detail. Mr. .Bertaux stated that he sloes not feel <br /> that there are any further serious,problems in the structural design <br /> although issues relative to coordination have been detected. Mr. Iertau <br /> indicated that he intends to rectify all pending issues. <br />
