Helene explained that she needed to get In touch with Ray
Martini to ask him to place it out by the front showcase.
I NEW BUSINESS:
A. Review of meetings for volunteers: Helene explained that she and
Kathy had conducted some training sessions for volunteers. They also
planned to prepare a training manual and meet with the volunteers for
training. They conducted two different sessions a couple of weeks ago*
The volunteers found that they had been able to share methods of doing
things with other volunteers, and they were very pleased with the way
.in which the sessions progressed.
E. Increased use of computers: Basically, the State had stated that any
library that was eligible could apply for a free computer,. Then, if
they wished to apply for additional computers, the State was going to
offer a bid, and a more attractive -price would be available on them.
Helene stated that they had paid about $1200 apiece which was a very
inexpensive price for what they received..
Helene explained that the following- week she would be taking a one--day
course in Microsoft Office to learn how to use some of the aspects of
that. Helene felt that the increased use of the new computers would be
tremendou ,hel.p to the library personnel in many aspects.
Helene explained that to date, the library had not received the free
computer. It was found that the demand was much greater than the
State had anticipated. It was explained that some of the libraries
would receive th it free computers during this fiscal year, and some
would probably get theirs in the fall. Their aim is to put one free
computer in every library so that the public will have access to the
Internet,
C. Long range view on plans for the library usage according to number of
volumes: Helene explained that the- t wn was working on a comprehensive
plan. Fart of the comprehensive plan included things like municipal
buildings. That section of the plan has been assigned to Eric Smith,
the Assistant Town Planner. Helene explained that she had had a couple
of- meetings with Eric where he had asked about the current facility, .
and the nature of the kind of things which were planned. Herne provided
the information in which he was interested. Helene felt that all of this
would prove very helpful to the l.ibrary.
