Mashpee Public Library
P.O.Box 657
Mashpee,MA 02649
Circulation for the month of June 1999 totaled 8,339 items. This was a decrease from the number of
transactions for the same period last June. The library circulated 1,283 fewer items than June 1998,but
that was an unusually busy month which exceeded June of 1997 by 1,869 items. If we compare figures
with a typical June(1997),business was up 586 over that total. The monthly reports on types of items
checked out has not yet been received from the CLAMS office,so further breakdown by type of material is
not yet available. There were 391 items borrowed from other libraries for Mashpee patrons. The library
lent out 285 items to other libraries for their patrons. Massachussetts residents borrowed 3,664 items and
out-of-state borrowers had 149 transactions. The library issued 125 library cards to new borrowers in June.
Patron visits for the month totaled 4,910. Preliminary circulation figures for FY1999 totaled 100, 835.
Some minor adjustments may be made to that figure when I receive final reports from CLAMS.
On Friday, June 1 Ith,a pre-bid tour of the library was given for architects and/or engineers who wished to
bud on the library survey projects. Representatives of six firms attended and spent about an hour touring
the building and asking questions about the bidding process. The bids closed on June 18th. The Board of
Selectmen received six sealed-bid proposals. Gary Eynation attended on behalf of the Board, Joyce Mason
represented the Selectmen's office and gave the tour and answered questions specific to the facility. We
arc trying to get a building committee together to review the proposals and select a firm. Thus far,we
have had three letters submitted from people interested in serving on the committee. We've advertised the
vacancies in the newspaper and on cable TV,but are have received only four letters of interest in being'
on the committee.
Janet Burke and I made a trip to New england Mobile Bookfair to purchase paperback titles for the school
reading lists. In prior years, children had some difficulty finding enough copies of the books they needed
from the list. We purchased extra copies which should help make things more available. We're also
pulling out a selection of these titles and displaying them on a bookcart. This should make it easier for
students to find some of the titles without as much help from the circulation staff.
Overdue fines of$649.24 were collected in June and turned over to the Town. Year-to-date, $6,682.70 in
fines have been collected and turned in to the Treasurer's Office.
Financial balances as of May 31, 1998
Library Salaries $ 2,518.51
Expense $ 10.35
Incentive Grant $ 8,132.22
MEG $ 6,622.56
Construction Grant $30,811.11
Early Childhood Mini-Grant $ 2,751.07
