Date: October 1,1999 . To: Helene DeFoe . From: Janet Burke Rc: Monthly Report The month of September saw the return of monthly family storytime held the first Saturday of each month. On Sept. 4'h 20 participants enjoyed humorous "Back to School" stories. Peg Geary of Kids Klub scheduled several after school groups to visit the library. On Sept. 21" I had three small groups come for a tour of the children's room and a storytime. The simultaneous groups had a total of 25 children. On Sept. 17'h I met with Steve Buss when the library was closed for a private computer lesson. He was able to show me several computer applications which are new to me, including graphics and making labels. I attended an Open House sponsored by the Mashpee Community Partnership on Sept. 20'h. The Council, which services the early childhood community of Mashpee, released the results of its Community Needs Survey which it had conducted career this year. The report was compiled by Dr. Joanne Bean of New Developments Consulting. One of the questions on the survey asked respondents about community based services they use. The number one answer was the public library. After the Needs Survey presentation, I then attended the regular monthly meeting of the Community Partnership Council. They were pleased to include the library and asked me to join the Council. On Sept. 21 u I met with Pat Lawrence of the Mashpee 2000 Committee. I signed an agreement to provide storytime here at the library on New Year's Eve. She hopes that the library will stay open a little later this year. SEMLS Continuing Education sponsored a workshop on Sept 22"d entitled"Tune In to Literacy, Libraries and the Media". Public television station WGBH told us about upcoming television programs that will address children's literature and libraries. I left with such enthusiasm that I decided I will try to organize an"Arthur Club" here at the library and target children in grades K through 3. Also on Sept. 22"d, I met with the Friends of the Mashpee Library to discuss: the upcoming White Elephant Sale; to request funds to purchase a Core Collection of audiobooks and homework packs; and to request a programming budget for the children's room. The Friends were extremely supportive and agreed to my requests.
