This exceeded November 1998 by 176
items. Included in these totals were 5,364 adult items,2,255 juvenile items and 88 young adult items.
There were 21815 fiction 1,237 non-fiction, 312 paperbacks, 153 periodicals,759 audiocassettes, 8
compact discs, 2,063 videocassettes, 304 large print books and 56 puppet kits. The library registered 99
new borrowers during the month. Forty-five new users were children. Janet Burke has made considerable
effort to invite all the first grades in town to rake class visits to the library this fall. I think many of these
new registrations were a result of her outreach to the schools. During the month, the library made 3,301
loans to Massachusetts residents who lige outside of 1iashpec. Sixty-two out-of-state residents also
borrowed material. The library borrowed 293 items for Mashpee patrons through interlibrary loan and
Maned 187 items to ether libraries for their patrons. There were 4568 patron visits in November.
This is a summary of the high points of the month:
The Library Building Committee negotiated a contract with Darlene Powers and Company to perform the
library feasibility study, i had hoped the study might begin in December, but the contract was delayed
because'the Town's attorney had an auto accident in late November. The contract has now been mailed out
to Vis. Powers and we are awaiting its return, 1 attended a.me ting at the new Truro Public Library and was
able to gather some ideas on features we might like to incorporate into our library furnishings.
I was appointed by the Board of Selectmen to the Census Counts Committee. This is a town effort t
obtain as accurate a census counts as passible. Since things like the library state aide reinmbursemcnt and
library fours are population driven, the library will benefit by participating on this committee. Members of
the committee will be working on a public awareness campaign about the iniporwice of ars accurate census
count. All library staff except the Director attended a Customer Service workshop for all town employees.
This was an opportunity to brush on basic skills and to interact with other town departments. A follow-up
session is scheduled for December.
Overdue fines for Novcmber totaled$621.75. A deposit slip in the amount of$164.60 was inadvertently
omitted from the October report. Including that amount brings the year-to-date overdue fine total to
$4,164.29 that has been collected and turned over to the Treasurer's office.
Financial Balances as of November 3 , 1999:
Library Salaries $781943.56
Expense 37,073.89
Incewi euant 4P217.89
MEG4)860.65
Construction Grant $30P81 1.11
Library Donation 5,342.17
