BOARD OF LIBRARY TRUSTEES REGULAR MONTHLY MEE.TI.NC TUESDAY', APRIL 10 , 2001 5 : 00 P . Me I PRESENT : HELENE DEFOE , LIBRARY DIRECTOR DAVID BURTON , CHAIRMAN ARL D 'ETE TER1 HYDE MIM1 MARSH DIANNA SMITH ABSENT : GARY EYNATIAN ALSO PRESENT : JIM WALKER PRESIDENT OF FRIENDS BUILDII COMMITTEE : DAVID BURTON ERNIE COLE ED DEFE GRACE TAL AGE Ii Meeting called to order . This was a joint meeting of the Board of Library Trustees and a quorum of the building committee . David explained that approximately fifteen years ago , Mashpee Commons , Fields Point deeded this parcel on which our library building stands for the use of the public library. One of the conditions which was part of the deed was a design review, that is to say , when the library building was placed , or an - expansion , n - e pan ion , or an improvement they would have the legal- right to review the pians , in keeping with their master plan for Mashpee Commons . Initially ,, Mashpee Commons representatives saw the plan for library expansion and stated that they haven ' t been up to speed on this , and they were not sure they could give approval . One of the representatives from Mashpee Commons is on the building committee , and , regrettably, there were some communi- cation breaks . David explained that Town Meeting wa-s about three and a half short weeks away . There is an Article #19 ; there is no dollar figure. They were asking the Town to vote to ,-, A. Accept money from the State a State Grant) % Helene and a few other people have worked very hard putting in a very comprehensive grant application at the State levels This next month is very important for a number of reasons 1 . Town meeting . 2 . We have been working for the Last three years to build a consensus within the Town, and a public aware- ness campaign letting it be known that the present Mashpee Library -as inadequate for the growing Town of Mashpee. f
