BOARD of LIBRARY TRUSTEES
REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING
TUESDA r- JULY 10r 2001
7: 0 P. ISI.
PRESENT: HELEN8 DEF E, LIBRARY DIRECTO.
DAVID LAR' N, c A I RAN
ARLG D 'E TE.
GARY ENTIAN
ANN MACD N D-DAI,LE
II- MARSH
DIANNA SMITH
II MINUTES- OF PREVIOUS MEETING; The minutes of May 8, 20'01 were
approved and accepted as-prepared. '
III REPORTS:
A. Library Director: A copy of He lene' s complete report is
attached for your. information.
Helene reported that she had- attended a meeting at the
Abington Library last week to discuss with the building
consultants for the State the problems with the grant. .
There were a number Of items the c mrr.itt e did -not care
for in 'the design, and when they were added up, there were
jest too many elements they did not approve. They did not
like the stair design; they felt the shape of the Meeting
room was distracting to the attendees. It had a lot of
windows at the -front, so' that ,thy' people looking at the
speaker would not only be looking, into the sure, ' they would
also be distracted' by the traffic.,
Helene felt they were very good comments.. . They spent over
three hours withHel ne going over all of the aspects of
the reconended improvements . They also mentioned in some
areas of the building they were very short on windows. They
felt there would not be enough -natural light, specifically
in the adult non-fiction and the children' s room.
H lene explained that. it was. obvious that - this 'committeee
had gone over this with a fine-toothed comb' to do a rating
of the -pluses and minuses . They had couple of favoraible
comments : They feat that Darlene had done a very nice job
f laying out the parking areas: It- was just a case f
more negatives than positives. They felt the building could
be -tight ned up, and they felt that Mashpee would end. up
with a better operation.
Helene explained that they had until mid-December to make
changes, corrections and re-submit -the application, if
they do re-submit, get it in by the deadline, 'Make a cut,
then they would be on a waiting list, That is where they
stare now.
