Public Library
P.O. Box 657
Mashpee, Ma 02649
Circulation for the month of December 2001 totaled 7,251 items. This is 842 more than
the same month last year. Year-to-date circulation totaled 61,919 items. Included in this
total were 57747 adult,'5 9 Young Adult and 1,474 juvenile items. There were 2,147
fiction, I,029 non-Miction, 449 periodicals, 3 3 8 paper acl s, 763.audiocassettes, 13 music
CDs, 2,214 videocassettes, 28 puppets, 16 museum passes, and 330 large print items
circulated. During the month, 32 patrons registered for library cards. The library lent
materials to 3,,021 Massachusetts residents and 89 items to out-of-state patrons.
Work has continued on preparing for the CLAMS software upgrade. Staff has been
working on reports from CLAIMS to clean up the database before it is transferred to the
new vendor. VVE have been working on inactive patron records for a purge of library
cards not used since 1998. Many of these cards go back to 1993 and 1994, when
lashpee first registered patrons. Eliminating the deado'od of inactive records will save
money since CLAMS must pay for every record transferred to the new system. We are
also working on-deleting older periodical issues that have been withdra vn. An item
record still remains in the database until the system is purged. I have been examining
item records for boobs and other materials to correct any inaccuracies in coding our item
records. All of this work will result in a smaller, higher quality database following the
purge as well as saving money by transferring up-to-date records.
In conjunction with the changeover, all staff is scheduled to attend a basic PC workshop
t CLAMS. . Once we switch over, PCs will replace the dumb terminals at the desk and
OPAC station. This training should help staff'feel more comfortable about conducting
circulation processes on a PC.
During the month} $707.30 in overdue fines were collected and turned over to the
Treasurer's office. Year-to-date,, fines collected total $6,,1 86.00.
