MASHPEE PUBLIC LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S REPORT <br /> TO: LIBRARY TRUSTEES <br /> FROM: HELENE DEFOE <br /> SUBJECT: SEPITAMER REPORT <br /> DATE: 10/14/2003 <br /> Staffing <br /> Staffing levels continue to be a problem. I have had one brief conversation with Joyce Mason <br /> concerning filling the vacancy. She had brought the topic up to the Selectmen but had no answer for <br /> ane as 'et• we are losing Diane Farrell this month because of her move to Florida. That leaves us <br /> without even temporary help to call on during illnesses or vacations. l have nothing neva to report <br /> on this topic. <br /> TrJeAsed Meetings <br /> , <br /> I have a clarification since my last report. The televised meeting requirement applies to <br /> regulatory boards only such as Zoning and hoard of Appeals. <br /> it yl `on <br /> Circulation for September totaled 8,990 items. ear-to-date figures are 34,558 items. Circulation <br /> has continued to be affected by the Friday closings. we are down 2,097 items over the same period <br /> last year.That would be about 250 items per geek which was about the amount of business we did <br /> n Fridays. <br /> State Reports <br /> I have completed the second phase of the Mate Reports. This details the financial compliance of <br /> the library and brews down bow funding was spent.It also certifies that the library met Mate <br /> standards like percentage spent on materials,goalificaons of the Director,lent freely to residents of <br /> the Commonwealth and hours of operafion. We fell mow the required hogs for the first time this <br /> year. The number of hours required increased because of the 2000 Census figures, Our requirements <br /> went from 26 hours to 40 hours per week. we fell below that last spring when we had to cut hours <br /> for lack of staff. Fortunately,Mashpee is in a grace period because of entering into a new population <br /> group. The report is complete and waiting for David Burton's signature. The deadline is October <br /> 24 . <br /> CLAMS NETWORK CH&NGES <br /> Most of you have probably seen the news stories about the Sandwich Library leaving CLAMS <br /> for another library network.
