Mahpee Public Library
P.O. Box 657
Ilashee, Ilia 02649
Circulation for April 2005 totaled 8,993 items, which is 1,342 items more than the
same time period fast year. This is an 18% over the same time period last year.
The library has circulated 100,466 items thus far this fiscal year..,.That figure is
10 381 more than the 2004 YTD figure: Circulation is running 2% higher than
last year. This i s the earl ie t,that the l ibrary has ever exceeded 100,00
transactions. As I stated last month, Ma hpee will assuredly.set a new record in
FY 2005 foryearly circulation transactions. (Current record is 113,209 in FY
2002
As of June '1 ago , the Southeastern Massachusetts Regional Library Service
(SELLS) is changing their system of ILL services to member-libraries.
Previously, SENILS contracted with two libraries to provide ILL services to other
libraries. Falmouth andQuincy Libraries had.these contracts. In the course of the meeting, it.became apparent that CLAIMS
libraries would-need some training because they do not share the same software
that many of the other networks use. Quincy has been reviewing the issues that
carne up at the meeting and will be offering additional training to-minimi e
'potentialproblems and to make the transition as smooth as possible.
I held-a staff meetin -inp riI to review some circulation policies and procedures
prig to the start of the summer season. Ralf of our staff is relatively new to
lashpee and.-we all felt it was important that everyone provide the public with
consistent answers to frequently asked questions. 1 had staff, submit questions or
comments to rye in advance so vire would be sure to cover any areas of concern.
Many of the questions overlapped and could be combined into common themes.
We e revie redp ro edur for applying for library cards and whet types- f
identification patrons needed to present with the application-. Since we switched
to Millennium softWare# we have'been asking patrons if they would like to provide
email addresses and obtain Pll s for their library cards. obtaining a PIIS allows,
the patron to access their record over the Internet. CLAMS has phased In using
the email addresses for patron messages over the last year or so. We have been
