4
[ashpee Public Library
P.o. Box 657
Il ashpee, Ma 62649
Circulation for .duly 2005 totaled 13,607 items{, which is 509 items more than last
July. Luring the month, CLAMS a one major telecommunications outage, which
left all cape libraries offline for about day and a half_ During the outage, staff
hard wrote transactions and keyed therm in the following day. Patrons were very
considerate about limiting the number of items they took out those days to ease
the workload on the staff. CLAMS has since replaced some routers at their office
that caused the problems.
The library has been extremely busy this summer. The hot Breather and lack of
beech weather has contributed to very hectic days at the library. We have had
days when there have been lines of patrons gaiting for the Internet stations from
opening to closing. We had one patron who complained about the slowness of
the computer equipment. He asked me who was responsible for purchasing
computer equipment for the library. All computer equipment is handled through
the Information Technology IT Department. The patron called the Tern
Manager and asked that the town upgrade our Oublic access computers. She
has instructed the IT Department to upgrade our public access computers. David
C elvecchio, IT Department bead, is working on getting some new computers for
the library. I'm hoping that will be accomplished during September.
We have been receiving many questions about the status of the library
construction project. To answer some of these questions: I have put up a display
of the library floor plans in the lobby showcase. In the lower half of the
showcase! I have included information on the success of the grant, and
information about ongoing fund raising activities. As everts take place and as
we add to our financial goal, I will use this space to keep the community
informed. As people ask about the project, we direct therm to the display as well
as verbally answering their questions. Many of the questions are about what the
time frame for construction is, the location of the new library and where we will go
daring construction. i had an interesting discussion with a parent today about if
the library would be open more hours than we are now. While that is the plan,
was able to explain to her that hours were connected to staffing and budget and
were not driven by the size of the library. That hadn't occurred to her but she
could see the connection once I pointed it out to her.
