Mashpee Public Library
P.o. Box'657 i
Mashpee, Ma 02649
Circulation for December 2905 totaled 8,924 iters, 1,909 items more than last
December. ear-to-date, circulation is 62,934 items which is 9% more than the
same period last year. We have passed seve' ral libraries in year--to-date
transactions and are now. the sixth busiest library on tine cape. Those, that
exceed our totals are considerably larger than Mashpee. It was somewhat
'.' surprising that December was so busy since that is traditionally a slow month.
.the number of transactions is more like the amount we used to do in September
or June of a few years ago. During the month, 55 library cards were issued to
new borrowers.
.1 have continued working on weeding the fiction collection in preparation for
moving and storing. I'm about half gray through the project. Lauren has been
working in conjunction with Mme, shifting the contents of the shelves to even out
the.number of iters per shelf. She also relocated the spoken CDs to the en of
the first stack of fiction. We had been using a ,spinner rack to house them but
they had out-grown -the space. since this is an actively growing pert of the
collection,,the new location gives the collection space to grow.
Bridget, has been wring on a similar project in the non-fiction collection. she
has weeded and in some case re-cataloged the cookbook section. Wehave
been - through a couple of catalogers the last decade and -thea have been
variations in how things were classified. Bridget has grouped liked items
together such as the diet cookbooks s to make it easier for patrons to browse all
items. she's also been working on emptying out the storage room of extra copies
of popular titles. We had been storing donated copies of best-sellers to use to
replace worn library copies. That Inas worked well in the past but we don't brant to
move or have to store extra copies during construction. Bridget has exchanged
copies where needed and the rest will go into the book sale.
i
i
ti
