e ort
Helene submitted copes of her monthly report for June,as well as the CLAMS circulation report for June.
These reports were reviewed and discussed. Helene also commented that on July 5 following the July
holiday the Library was unbelievably busy. with only 3 staff members on duty they handled $2,000 items in
this one day. Over 1,000 items were checked out; and over 900 checked back in. These numbers astounded
the Trustees.
Helene then distributed a copy of Janet urke's monthly report for June, which was also reviewed and
discussed. Helene said the Coombs School strongly encouraged the children to read during the summer, so
this will probably be the busiest summer yet. Copies of Helene's and Janet's reports are attached to the
printed set of these minutes.
.Sheldon Gilbert joined the meeting at this point.
Discussion
Shelley advised the Board that he submitted ars e-mail to Town that he be considered for appointrnent to the
Planning and Construction Committee. Although not told before, he was later told he has to submit a resume
and it will be acted on July 24.
David reported that according to Town Counsel under the Charter any new construction is under Platming and
Construction Committee. David said this is going to be a good thing and everyone is grateful to Shelley for
considering joining that Committee since he has the unique gasp on the library building project insofar as
technical aspects are concerned. David noted that Library Trustees'job is to deliver library services to the
town.
Shelley said we're gong to need large private donations and grant money. Falmouth asked for the whole
amount from the town and when money comes in thea they will repay the town. Shelley added that allows
them to start while costs are lower. Carlo stated that maybe we should do something else to protect the $2.5
billion grant. Shelley responded that maybe another way is to get a loan and pay it off little by little as the
money comes in. Shelley said longer we wait, more costs increase.
Status of grants? Shelley responded that Board should talk to Torn for update on this question. Shelley also
said that Martha Moore does have the expertise regarding foundation grants.
Next Meetin ..*Tuesday., August 1 ,2006,at 6;30 p.m. in Library Meeting Room.
►d'ourn ent...
