Mer my visit to the classrooms, the' first grade teachers schedule a walking field trip to
. s •
the library. Mrs. T'essici r s class visited the library on September 22'd. There were 21
children who had a tour of the library, listened to stories and checked out a book.
On September 1 ' 1 met with Kari LaPointe who is the new librarian at the Mashpee
High School. She gave me a tour of the library and we discussed possible collaborative
efforts. I explained the advantages of Novelist and how to access this data base with a
M shpee CLAIMS card. I gave her a handout explaining Novelist-which I had created,
- rid she planned to share this with all of the high school teachers at the next staff meeting.
I also explained our Teacher Card policy and provided letters to all of the teachers which
Kari planned to distribute for me. I'm so happy to have met ars enthusiastic connection at
the high school.
attended the Children's Librarians Roundtable Meeting in Yarmouthport on September
18'h. Vickie Beene-Beavers from SLI I1_S was on hard to explain DOPA(Deleting
Online Predators Act). School Library Journal suras up this l gis.tration: "If passed into
law,, DOPA will require schools and libraries receiving a-rate funding to block access to
social networking sites life MySpace and Friendster, chat rooms, and perhaps hlogs.
i Opponents, who include much of the library community, support the l gistra ion's overall
intent to protect children from online predators, of course, but criticize the hill as
overbroad vague, and ineffective."' we also discussed our upcoming 15 th Annual Family
Library Event to be held in November, and each library shared the highlights of their
summer reading programs.
 sp
The M ee h Community 1 a.rtn rshil Council held meeting on September 19P. This
.
grant project brings together early childhood educators, family day care providers, school
.embers and community members. The CPC supports-the library with passes to the
Children's Museum and a family programming evert.
On September 26thl attended the MUNIS training workshop at Town Hall.
