i
y f
Mashpee Public Library
P.O. Box 657
Mashpee, Ma 02649
circulation for February 2007 was 9,876 items. This month's circulation
exceeded last February's by 217 items. Our year-to-date total of 91,919 items
continues to run % ahead of the same point last year.
I arra continuing to concentrate on Breeding the non-fiction collection. It is looking
much more hopeful that we will be in temporary quarters net year and I want to
avoid putting obsolete items into long term storage. Recent positive steps from
the town about the library construction project have given hope to the staff that
we will actually begin the construction phase in a year or so. We want to take
advantage of this lead time to streamline the collection and reduce the cost of
storage for items that are better weeded from the collection.
The Legislative Breakfast was well attended by Mashpee Trustees, Friends and
staff. Two of the speakers were representing Mashpee (Carlo D'Este and Danny
Burke) and they did us proud. I received a number of compliments on well
spoken they were in sharing their experiences in how the library had made a
difference in their lures. Rob Maier, Executive Director, of the IILC addressed
the group. He said that discussions with Governor Patrick were positive and that
Patrick , felt the library -community would be pleased with his budget
recommendations.
I attended a Wellness Seminar later that day. It was sponsored by the Cape Cod
Municipal Health Group and was intended for managers who could bring
information on wellness topics back to their staffs. They had sessions on eating
healthy, stress reduction, yoga meditation and women's health issues. This was
one of a seris of presentations by the health group. Since the towns are self
insured, it benefits everyone to keep staffs healthy by stressing life style
changes. Healthy employees are more productive and less apt to need sick
time.
Cater in the meeting, we will be discussing staff development through attendance
at the Cape Cod and Islands Library Association Spring Conference. It is
devoted to library technology and is being held at Cape Cod Community College.
It is a great opportunity to expose the staff to technology issues that directly
affect.them and the library's patrons. I think their attendance at this conference
would be very worthwhile.
