Ilashpee Public Library
P.O. Box 657
Mashpee, Ma 02649
Circulation'for October 2007 was 10,579 items. circulation YTD was 50,52
items Yearly transactions are still slightly behind 2006 (526 items less). I do
think that reneging DVDs and VHS tapes has had a small negative impact on
total circulation. We had abut 200 more'rene a s this month than in September
200 6. Renewing items a second week cut,,tfie frequency of visits and the
opportunit to -take -additional items.- Transaction figures-willprobably-even out
over they ear bort to date it has had the opposite effect I would have a p
The t d.
p
The patrons lure- beingable to renew so it has been received sitivel
-
from their aspect.
Catherine Laurent, Steve cook and I recently attended a workshop at SEMLS on
Man L'n Your BLIding Pro act. The other participants were at various stages in
their '
roects. Some were contemplating doing a project, some were doing
p
feasibility studies and a fever were on the grant waiting list. We were the 'most
advanced in our progress towards building a new library. We picked up a few
tips in the morning but most of that session involved activities flashpee had
already completed such as site selection and doing an RFP for an architect. We
felt the afternoon session was most applicable to our project. It focused on
selecting a project manager and working with the architect and contractor on final
design -and construction.
Cheryl Bryan, continuing Education Director for SEMLS, suggested that we visit
the Lakeville Public Library since it was just a few riles do ern.the road. We took
advantage of its proximity and were given a tour by the library director. She told
us about some of the pluses and minuses (heating/cooling) of their project and
vire could see examples of some of the sit a ions Ch-eryl has dis'pulsed in the
workshop.
Thea application period for Owner's Project [Manager closed on November ,
pp
2007. We received seven submissions for the s bcor ittee to -review at the
November 14th meeting. our recommendation will.be forwarded to the Planning
and Construction eommitt e,for their meeting on November 20th.
have received the instruictions for the FY 2009 budget packet. Department
Beads have been told to level fund the Expense.Iludget and to include only step
- 4
increases in the Salary Line items. We are to include an -impact statement
showing the effect of level funding on the departrne.nt. The Town continues with
the hiring freeze and will not be.creating any new positions and will fiJl -only
essential positions If someone leaves. Let us hope that ouir.current staff hays
with us this year so vire don't have to find out if our positions are considered
essential. The budget is due on November 21't.. -
f -
