The major difference between thisyear and d cast year volume
was Falmouth Public Library's move to temporary space.p ace, almouth Library
closed in October 2006 for moving and reopened in a new ver location in November.
our volume increased 5% that month because
many Falmouth patrons used
Mashpee's library -during the closing and shortly after., people adjusted to
Falmouth location, many have reverted back to
their usual home library
location. Looking back to November ooh the corn % •
comparison was increase in
our normal volume of use.
We have begun using a new CLANS feature a few weeks ago. Patrons who
have provided ars email address are getting automatic courtesy reminders a fear
days before their items are due.- The notices are
generated early each mmin
automatically without adding a task on tho staff. We've also have
positive feedback from
patrons who appreciate the reminder. nne ected
 reef of the notices is
getting a chance to put notes on patron cards if the notices bounce back to the
library. We have a stock message, Check Erik
Address, for any messages
that get returned. It gives us ars opportunity to update address charges before
a overdue notice is generated.
p
I participated 'in interviews for tie
library Owner's Project Manager.er. They had completed several fibra r •
r projects, rcludrr one where
J. Stewart Robertswas the architect. They had a very good grasp of energy
issues and spoke about coming up with several alternatives for . .
erergy efficiency
projects. They wil'I develop a list of ossibilities ars t
_possibilities h payback costs, The
Planning and Construction Committee can look at the
alternatives and decide
which are, '
the most appropriate for our project. The firm nrr was recently the M
for the Needham Library, which has achieved LEEDS
certification,
We were also impressed by their discussion of using
phasing on past projects.
They suggested the contractor could benefit from the summer Breather if the
library relocated sooner. We had thou ht about
moving out when the design
i
work s completed. 'Moving and doing site' work while
the design is bung
completed is not a concept vire had thought about'.
