Town of Mashpee <br /> Mashpee Public Library <br /> Library Expansion Building Committee <br /> Minutes of Meeting <br /> August 17, 1999 <br /> The Town of Mashpee Library Expansion Building Committee <br /> Meeting was called to order at the Mashpee Public Library, in the <br /> Library Meeting Room, 100 Nathan Ellis Highway, Mashpee, <br /> Massachusetts at 7 : 05 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17, 1999 . David <br /> Burton, Chairman pro tem presided. <br /> Committee Members present : Anne Aristide; David Burton; <br /> Ernest Cole, Jr. ; George Costa; Edward DeFoe; and Gary Eynatian. <br /> Absent : Angela Cincotta; and Grace Talmage. <br /> Also present : Helene DeFoe, Library Director; and Mike <br /> Bailey, Falmouth Enterprise. <br /> A quorum being present, Mr. Burton entertained a Motion be <br /> made to officially call this, the initial Meeting, to order. <br /> MOTION: Upon Motion duly made and seconded, it was voted <br /> unanimously to begin the Meeting. <br /> Introduction of Members <br /> Dave Burton-Mashpee resident for eleven (11) years, involved <br /> with Library activities for three (3) years . A member of the <br /> Board of Library Trustees, recently voted Chairman. He stated <br /> his support for the Library and all that it offers to the Town; <br /> noting the difficulties the Library is experiencing due to the <br /> growth/demands being made upon it. The existing building was <br /> designed to 'house approximately twenty-five thousand (25, 000) <br /> volumes; the Library currently stores approximately thirty-five <br /> thousand (35, 000) volumes . <br /> Ed DeFoe-officially a resident of Connecticut, retired, a <br /> frequent commuter to Mashpee and a Library volunteer. He stated <br /> his awareness of the Library Building' s many shortcomings due to <br /> the recent growth within the Town. He expressed his interest and <br /> desire to be instrumental in the design and expansion of the <br /> Library building. By way of background information, Mr. DeFoe <br /> informed the Committee that he had previously been employed by <br /> the U.S. Postal Service, Facilities Engineer for the former <br /> Hartford Division, involved in Operational Planning for new <br /> postal facilities throughout the state of Connecticut. He <br /> assisted in development of planning requirements, monitoring of <br /> design and construction of approximately fifty (50) post office <br /> buildings . Mr. DeFoe noted the goal here is to hire an architect <br /> to design a building which meets the functional requirements of <br /> the Library. <br />
