DeFoe suggested she conduct a <br /> tour of the Library building and grounds : Steeple Street <br /> property line marker, road/driveway; Town Green, possibility of <br /> on-street parking; Discussion of building expansion, possible <br /> parking situations, possible second level addition to building <br /> which would require additional staffing and the necessity for <br /> elevators; Mashpee Commons preliminary plan to extend and/or <br /> widen their sidewalk area; handicap parking/accessibility; the <br /> location of Job' s Fishing Road septic system. (The tour of the <br /> Library grounds was completed at 8 : 10 p.m. ) <br /> Building tour: Noted office/desk congestion; Videos; <br /> Children' s area, storytelling area, table/chairs, all of which <br /> accommodate only the young children. Adult section-Non-fiction <br /> books are overcrowded which is harmful to the book bindings; <br /> Fiction; Audio book collection; Reference section; and <br /> Periodicals, which is in need of expansion. Mystery section <br /> which is at capacity; Young Adult section which is at capacity <br /> with no room to expand due to the placement of windows; Large <br /> print section which is difficult for elderly people to withdraw <br /> from the shelf space unassisted; Otis collection, material <br /> dealing with the plumes . There are two (2) new computers on <br /> order; two computers are currently used for the CLAMS system, one <br /> for word processing. The addition of two (2) CLAMS stations, the <br /> equipment for which has been ordered, including graphics on the <br /> internet . New book section for Fiction and Non-fiction; the <br /> card catalogues which are no longer being used; Circulation desk <br /> which is very crowded, at times two to four people are working in <br /> this area with a book truck at either end. Reserve book case <br /> which is overcrowded; Work room where computer, catalog and <br /> volunteer work is done; Delivery service area for inter-library <br /> loans; Kitchen space which is very small; concluding at the <br /> Meeting Room which is also used for conferences as well as the <br /> children' s craft area. (The tour of the Library building was <br /> completed at 8 :23 p.m. ) <br /> There seemed to be no question among Committee Members that <br /> the existing conditions within the Library space are overcrowded, <br /> with Mr. Costa noting this is the appropriate time for the Town <br /> to address the needs of the Library. <br /> Mr. Burton noted the efforts of the Friends of the Library <br /> to raise funds, as well as efforts which have been made to <br /> educate the public by way of speaking engagements directed at <br /> local civic groups in an attempt to gain support by way of public <br /> and private donations. <br /> Ms .
