meeting room area, which is currently being used for everything <br /> from storage of book sale items to the children' s programs, <br /> Friends of the Library, and various committee meetings . <br /> Mr. Burton informed the Committee that a request for <br /> proposals has been requested by the Town (RFP) and made reference <br /> to Town of Mashpee Library Expansion and Renovation Feasibility <br /> Design Services and responses to same from Powers and Company, <br /> Inc. ; Modigliani/Noyes, Architects; J. Stewart Roberts Associates, <br /> Inc. Architects; Gaffney Architects; and The Preservation <br /> Partnership. <br /> Mr. Costa suggested the Committee consider appointing a sub <br /> committee for the purpose of review of said proposals in order to <br /> report back to the Committee with suggestions regarding the <br /> interview process . He also suggested references be contacted. <br /> Ms. DeFoe stated the study had been a result of notes she <br /> had kept over the years of her employ at the Library regarding <br /> deficiencies within the building. The Library property consists <br /> of approximately two (2) acres of land; the existing building is <br /> in desperate need of expansion as it is too small for the <br /> population it serves; and Long range plans should encompass a <br /> twenty (20) year period. The question of adequate parking space <br /> should also be addressed. <br /> Ms. DeFoe stated Gaffney and Brothers are the original <br /> architects of the existing Library building. She also noted that <br /> a tour of the Library building site had been arranged for <br /> interested representatives of various firms prior to the <br /> submission of proposals. <br /> Sub-Committee Volunteers <br /> Ernie Cole, George Costa, Ed DeFoe, and Gary Eynatian; <br /> Advisory Member, Helene DeFoe. <br /> Purpose: To review proposals, conduct interviews, and <br /> selection for feasibility study. Followed by a submission of <br /> recommendation to the Board of Selectmen. <br /> There was some discussion regarding aspects of the <br /> feasibility study. The agreed upon amount being Twenty Five <br /> Thousand ($25, 000 . 00) Dollars which amount does not include <br /> design costs . Ms. DeFoe informed the Committee of the <br /> availability of state construction money within the near future. <br /> However, in order to quality for grant money, a project must be <br /> underway and certain information made available such as cost <br /> estimates, schematic drawings, etc . , all of which will be <br /> incorporated into the feasibility study. <br /> Mr. Burton reported that representatives of Mashpee Commons <br /> have attended Library Board of Trustees Meetings and have shared <br /> -3- <br />
