f
Mashpee Public Library
P.O. Box 657
Mashpee, Ma 02649
Circulation for December 2007 was 8,341 items. This was 123 items less than
last December. An early closing on December 13 because of a severe snow
storm probably accounted for the slight difference from last year's total.
December tends to be one of our slower months and vire put the time to good use
doing preparation tasks for the move. Bridget has reviewed most of the items in
the library storage room. She's found homes in other town departments for
various reports. The Town Planner, Building Department, conservation
Department and others were pleased to receive pristine copies of reports that
related to their functions. Janet Burke has made good progress in weeding the
children's materials., She is sending an email to each school librarian to b
shared with the teachers: offering surplus items foe classroom collections.
I have completed reviewing and Breeding the audio book collection. I have
removed under used titles which give us more shelf space and will cut down on
ghat vire have to stare during the rove. Many of our oldest titles had seen lithe
or no circulation activity for the last two gears. The weeded titles have been
given to the Friends for the library book sale. The inclusion of audio books in the
sale was heavily promoted. We had about a dozen people waiting to get into the
sale at :00 a.m. and business was brisk all day. I thinly we saw a lot of neva
faces at the sale and hopefully they will become repeat customers.
queried Joyce Mason.about disposing of equipment that we don't intend to take
with us. 1 told her we were offering items to other departments first. She told me
to mate of list of anything not-ranted by the town. They will post the list on the
town website for the public to purchase items. After than items will be declared
surplus and the DPW can assist in tatting items to the transfer station.
I have not heard any more on our budget yet. That is hopefully a positive sign:
that the narrative fully explained our budget request. The Selectmen or Finance
Committee may r yet have questions for nye but I think Joyce Mason was satisfied
with my presentation. I'll update you on the budget request net month. I
anticipate I'll have Joyce's recommendation by then.
I reported last month that the Selectmen were voting on the Library's OPM. They
agreed to hire R P Walsh as OP ll but Steve cook: chair of Planning and
Construction told rice that the town and Walsh are still in negotiations over the
price of the contract. If they are not able to reach agreement} the town would try
to negotiate with one of the other candidates.
