Mashpee Public Library
P Q Box 657
Mashpee MA
Circulation for June 2008 was 8,158. This is quite a bit less than last June's
121013, because of the closure and the move. it has taken a bit of time for
patrons to realize we reopened in the new location. we received a number of
calls from people asking when we'd be reopening. We've also gotten calls from
folks arriving for the summer who had a little difficulty finding us in the new
location. We have noticed that business picked up quite a bit in the last week or
so we should be back to normal volume in no time. Our year-to-date circulation
for FY 2008 was 124,471 items.
In addition to the CLAMS circulation, we have had 60 downloadable transactions
since the OverDrive audio service went dive in late March. I've included a
summary sheet of each participating member's transaction, year to date. The
S
oint CLAMS' collection currently consists of 538 tides and includes books and
music titles. I expect usage of this collection to grow as patrons become more
aware of its existence and as the title selection increases.
We have settled nicely into our new space. We have had a problem with a high
humidity level, parUcularly in unit 9. We don't get as much air flow in that unit
because the door is an emergency exit only. People using unit 5 let in some fresh
air coming and going and that unit has been much more comfortable than unit 7.
Catherine Laurent purchased two dehumidifiers last week. it has helped the
situation quite a bit. In one 24 hour period, we emptied 5 gallons of water from
unit 7.
Mary Navicky, our new Summer Circulation Assistant, started work on dune 27'x".
She has picked up the various circulation tasks very quickly and has fit in very
well with existing staff. I had hoped to start her a little sooner than that for
training purposes. The library move pushed back interviews until June 17t',
because of the move activities. The Personnel Department and the Town were
very goad about fast tracking her paperwork so we could start her before the
Jur e weekend. Mary is a seasonal resident who is on Cape from May to
November. That fit in perfectly with our requirements. Vele were looking for
someone who was available from June until October. She has extensive
customer service skills and remained unruffled even on days when we had long
fines. She is already proving to be an asset to our small staf€.
At this point, we have moved everything we are planning to reuse in the new
library. Everything is at.boy S# or in storage. The remaining items will be part of
the Town's surplus sale and auction, scheduled for late July. The sale will include
items from other departments and will be help at the old library.
