 {
As a note of interest, Mashpee's circulation the previous year was 135,192 items.
We had to downsize and store quite a bit of the librar/s collection to move to
smaller spa e. We typically see a circulation,in re se of about % per year. This
was the first year that circulation dropped due to the move and-.having less
materials available. Our normal circulation is- similar to Centerville's or
Nantucket's totals.
In summary; the library has the unique, situation of opening a much larger r
x
building dudn' g the upcoming fiscal budget year. certain expenses such as
energy and communications were driven by that situation. Any areas of the
{ budget which could be reduced were cut. Fed costs such as CLAMS
membership went down dight!y due a small adjustment in their membership fee
structure, not because of any local cuts. The membership costs are a formula
that equitably apportions the cost of running the CLAMS Network among all
members. It is similar to paying a utility bill. We are paying for usage of 'Shared
resources and don't decide locally ghat we'd like to pay.
Maintaining the construction 'grant payments so crucial to the new library depend
on continuing the library's certification. Our population group size is required to
spend 16% of the budget on books and collection materials. Not meeting this
standard would end the progress,payments for the building project. Many years
of effort went into obtainingalmost $3,000,000 in rant money. l e would not be
able to complete our project without this piece of the project. The dollar amount
of the rise for collection materials is a small price to pay for almost $3,000,000 in
state money to build our new library. We will have much more room for collection
materials in the new library. We were contrited from developing collection
appropriate for the population size because of the available space in the old
library. This will give us an opportunity to open a neer building and not have a sea
of empty shelves.
t;
F
4
7
1
