DeFoe <br /> From: Janet Burke <br /> Re: Monthly Report <br /> The statewide'summer reading program, "Starship Adventure at Your Library"' concluded <br /> during the month of August. This year 219 children registered at the library to <br /> participate. Children committed to read 20 minutes per day for at least 5 days a week and <br /> recorded their time on a reading log. They brought their logs into the library to receive <br /> small r" a for their reading effort end-for visiting the library. The final prize was <br /> coupon for a firee lee cream cone from Polar Cave Ice Crean Parlor. This is the third <br /> . <br /> year that Mark Lawrence from Polar Cave has generously sponsored our summer reading <br /> program,. <br /> Again this summer,the Mashpee Public Library is participating in the Statewide Online <br /> Sumner Readingprogram. have set up three pros nhne-. one for Kids, one for <br /> Teens and one for Adults. We have 15 children registered online, down from 52 last <br /> summer, I believe the decline is due to the fact that I was unable to make school visits. <br /> this year and personally explain the online program o students. However, we have an <br /> increase m teen participation. We have 5 tees registered thus-year, compared to 2 teens <br /> last summer—a % increase! I attribute the teen'particip ti n to cord of mouth <br /> advertising in the library. <br /> The Upper Ca a 'amily Network,the grant which brought us Mss osemary, has <br /> suffered severe budget cuts. They are no longer able to employ Rosemary. I have been <br /> running Toddle Time this summer, and the Mashpee Community Partnership Council has <br /> agreed to include Rosemary in their grant for September. The <br /> vanner each week receives a"Starship Adventure at Your Library' T-shirt. We have had <br /> the following participation for the Trivia:Contest: <br /> August I st 16 Entries <br /> August e 6 Entries <br /> August 15th 16 Entries <br /> Maria Cortez a library patron who-moved to 1 Whpee from Chile three years ago, has <br /> been working with me to pirwide a Bilingual Storer Time for school age children, While i <br /> read stones in English, Maria reads the stones in Spanish, The final Bilingual Story <br /> Time this summer was held on August and attended by 1 participants. <br />
