Ma tepee Public Library Art Policy <br /> Acquisitions Committee <br /> Mission Statement <br /> It is the intent of the Mashpee Public Library Art Committee to obtain high quality <br /> public artwork by local and regional artists and to display these pieces in a public <br /> area within the library in ordier to enrich the intellectual, educational and cultural <br /> pursuit of the community. <br /> Art Advisory Committee <br /> The members of the Mashpee Public Library Art Committee will review the work, and <br /> vote to recommend, or not recommend, the purchase or acceptance of artwork to <br /> the Board of Trustees for acquisition. The vote on the recommendation to add the <br /> artwork t -the library wilI be by majority. <br /> Composition <br /> The members will consist of a representative from the Board of Library Trustees, <br /> three representatives from the community who have ars interest in the library and <br /> the arts, and the Library [director. The members will be appointed by the Chairman <br /> f the Board-of Trustees. <br /> Term <br /> The committee members shall have staggered three-year terms with subsequent <br /> renewals at the discretion of the Chairman of the Board ofTrustees, Committee <br /> members shall declare conflicts daring the selection process. A conflict of interest <br /> exists if a committee member has the potential to gain financially from the <br /> transaction. <br /> Acquisition Policy <br /> Art commissioned for, purchased by or given to the Committee will become the <br /> property of the Trust/non-profit. Artwork includes, but is not limited to, paintings, <br /> sculpture, photographs, textiles, and decorative items. <br /> Acquisition by Gift: Gifts of works of art or funds for the acquisition of artwork will <br /> be accepted without limitations or conditions placed on the Trust/non-profit by the <br /> donor or artist. A reed of Gift has been established to formally convey this policy. <br /> Title to all art will pass to the Trust/non-profit. Donors who wish to receive a tax <br /> credit are responsible for getting an appraisal. The provenance will also dourmnt <br /> the current appraisal. <br /> Acquisition by Purchase: A separate endowment account will be established for- <br /> the sole purpose of purchasing, conserving and maintaining artwork for.the library: <br /> The Committee will follow the process outlined above for the acquisition of a gift. <br /> Selection Criteria <br /> The I a hpee Public Library has limited space for the display of art, and therefore it i <br /> important to consider very carefully the selection of artwork. <br /> The art should be appropriate in scale, material, form and content for the library <br /> environment, and shall be consistent with the mission statement. The work of art <br /> should complement and enhance the building and its purpose. The reputation of the <br /> artist may be a factor in the decision. <br /> Artwork shall display a high level of artistic quality and craftsmanship that supports <br /> and enhances the artist and community. The "message" of art, if any, shall be <br /> acceptable to the current standards of the community. <br /> When selecting a work-of art to purchase or determining if a gift may be accepted, <br /> the Committee will take into consideration any security-issues, the cost of <br /> installation,-and the cost of maintaining the work over it lifetime. <br />
