Mashpee Public Library
4 Steeple St
P o. Box 657
lashp a MA 02649
508-539-1435 ' FAX 508.539-1437
Circulation for the month of July 2010 totaled 20,999 items. That exceeded last year's total of 14,,2 64 by
,785 items. The monthly total increased 4 over the same time period last year. New library, rd
registrations in July totaled 422.Since opening, we've registered 1,220 patrons compared to 335 in the
same time frame last gear. Registrations are ups and show little evidence of slowing down. I had
placed an order six months ago, expecting it to last for the year. I was surprised to discovered we've
used up most of that batch already and had to place a reorder.
Mashpee.was the third busiest library on the Cape and Islands in July, behind Falmouth and Harwich.
Both are bigger libraries and are open longer hours than I lashpee. The community has-certainly
embraced the new building and is taking advantage of the library and its services.
The building issues have calmed down since the ceiling the replacement in June. We have had minor
issues with doors sticking and with the,Steeple St.exterior door lock, but nothing of the magnitude of
thei last few months. Hopefully the major problems are behind us.
I arra working- on completing the ARIS report, due at the IVIBLC by the end of August.Submitting this
report is part of our certification process. For the first time, the report is being submitted online, instead
of the hard copies of the past. The online forms total up the libraries figures so there should be less
math errors in everyone's submissions. We will be eligible for a prorated payment this year because of
the decrease vire took in hours. It was a necessary step since it's been difficult to staff the current hours
with so little staff. The additional four lours would have been impossible to staff.
The library has its fiat public piece of art, commissioned by George Silva and Tedi March and sculpted
by their son, Benn Silva. It is located adjacent to the children's reading garden last week. it seems most
appropriate that our first sculpture comes from the Silva/March family.Tedi's mom, Mimi, served as a
library trustee until just before her death and Mimi would have been so pleased to see Benn's sculpture
n the library grounds.Jane is handling a press release to announce the acquisition:
We have had a volunteer come forward to take over arranging Artist of the Month exhibits, Elizabeth
Welch is keeping a calendar of artists exhibiting at the library over the next few months. She is
publicizing the exhibits and arranged a meet the artist event in.duly.The current artist is Array Rice
Woodruff. Elizabeth is concentrating on Masbpee artists first and will broaden it out to Cape artists if
she runs short of local people. The art wo rk adds a lovely touch and patrons have been noticing anal
commenting on the paintings.
