I have been in touch with several Town Hall department heeds about the process for procuring new
lettering for the Teen Room dedication, and the need for competitive bids. I was advised by Catherine
Laurent that we should u'se the signage company that was actually awarded the contract when the
Library was built.
This month, we have welcomed three new part-time.employe s:Allison Gifford, Nicolas McCavitt, and
Michelle Spinney. All three are now working nineteen hours a Week, and have already proven to b
valuable additions to the staff. They bring new skills and fresh eyes to the Library and are eager to take
-ori new challenges. We continue to juggle schedules to accommodate staffing needs caused by leave
and vacation time. Everyone is doing their absolute best to provide the highest level of service. possible
during the busy summer months. I am planning to move forward to purchase'an additional computer to
place on the staff desk in the Teen Room, and also a receipt printer for the upstairs Adult Services desk
to provide back up for the main circulation desk.
The Library has contracted with P1ym uth Rocket software company to provide Meeting Room
registration software, as well as modules to manage the Museum passes and Event Calendar. This
software is widely used.in the Library co r7nmunity and should be very helpful to staff in managing these
functions. The cost of the software is generously being covered by the Friendsof-the Library.
On August B, the Library hosted the monthly Town Department Head meeting. This meeting served as
ars internal focus gaup to help assist in the Library's Long Range planning efforts.Turnout was very high
and staff from all Town Departments carne with creative suggestions for ways to utilize the Library and
promote it as a resource and center for town activities and information. Two of the ideas that emerged
from the meeting included monthly Department Head office hours to be held at the Library, which
would allow M hpee residents to interact with and bring concerns to town employees, and to further
develop a community information center for the distribution of important town documents and
materials,
On August 8,Jack Kowalski and I met with'the Town Manager,Assistant Town-Manager,and Town Legal
Counsel to discuss the paper use of the Library Buildings and Grounds. We had a very productive
meeting and were able to work together to create a plan for moving forward and working toward
meeting the Library's service goals-for the community.Jack and I will work toward implementing ntin any
necessary policy or process changes.
As a result of some unwelcQme patron behavior, a new Library Use Policy ha.s been drafted for approval
by the Board of Trustees, and subsequent legal review by the Town Counsel. Although reviewing and
drafting new policies has been earmarked as a by-product of the Library Long Range Plan, it was
necessary to rave forward at this time and revise this policy. Based on revisions and additions to this
policy,-it will also be necessary to adapt the Safe Child Policy, the Quiet Study Room Policy, and the
Computer and Internet_U se Policy in the irr mediate future.
The Long Range Planning process has been moving forward slowly, and I hope to focus on than beginning
next week. I would like to have a meeting of the Planning Committee in the next two weeks.
